I have not received a letter since sponsoring Luciana in June

I have not received a letter from Luciana (PE5290573; “Gelen”) since sponsoring her in June (except the introductory letter written before sponsorship).  I was advised to ask again on January 21 -- the 7-month mark.  My impatience is intensified by the fact that we are planning to meet Luciana in a few months.  Please check on her for me.

This is a public forum.  I don’t want to leave a negative impression.  If you’re thinking “Me Too!”  I initially had a similar experience with correspondence from my other sponsored child.  HOWEVER, the problem was resolved and ‘my’ child was even accompanied by the Pastor’s wife to purchase gifts and take pictures.  If you are in the “Me Too” crowd don’t give up on your child(ren) or Compassion’s ministry.  It’s not about us, it’s about the kids.

Hi Steve. I am so sorry you haven't heard Luciana other than the initial introduction letter. I know just how hard it can be to wait for letters from these kids, especially when it has been so long and you are planning to visit.  I want you to know that the country office in Peru did log a letter from her on January 13, which means it should arrive in our Colorado office soon. Once that happens, we will process it and send it straight on to you. I know you are looking forward to reading her letter. Like you mentioned, the correspondence can be rather slow at first, but I am praying that she will send you letters more frequently as she continues to receive all the wonderful encouragement you have been sending to her. Please let us know if you have further concerns about the correspondence with her. I certainly hope you also have a wonderful experience when you meet her in a few months!

Can you check on the letter that was received in the Peru office (January 13) for me?  Our trip is coming up in weeks and I haven't received anything but the pre-sponsorship letter.

Hi Steve! This letter was received in our USA office at the end of January and sent on to you. We are currently working on updating our systems and seeing a slight slowdown in letters. If you do not receive this letter by March 13, please let me know and I will request a copy from our office in Peru. When are you going? It looks like you are going on the Ecuador tour in June. Is that the one you are referring to or is there a sooner trip?

Thanks for the quick response.  Luciana (aka Gelen) is in Peru.  That tour is April 30 to May 8.  Yes, I am also going on the Ecuador in June.

Let me know if I should be concern that you see me down for the Ecuador tour, but not the Peru tour.

To follow-up on my response yesterday, I received the travel packet for the Peru trip yesterday evening.  You can ignore my comment regarding the tour.

However, I noticed that the monetary gift and my first three letters were all more than six months ago.  I'm not sure why we would wait another month to check on a response.

Hi Steve! I'm so glad you received that information and have confirmation that you'll be going on our trip to Peru! We're so excited for you :).

The reason we say March 13th is because a letter was written and we did already receive the letter in our office and it was mailed to you. The six month rule pertains to if a letter has not been written in six months. Sometimes, once we mail a letter out, it takes the post office a while to get the letter to you for whatever reason, whether it be a busy season (which we have seen a lot lately), or if they're held up in their office.

Once it leaves our office in Colorado and is sent to you in the mail, it's then up to the post office to get that letter to you. If you don't receive that letter within 45 days (most of the time it's much, much quicker than this), it is considered a 'lost letter' and we're able to contact our field staff to see if they have a copy of that letter that we can send you electronically. But we're hoping that the letter was just delayed in the mail and that you'll be receiving it very soon! :)

OK, thanks.  But the six month rule would still apply to the gift which was sent in August.

Also, when I checked just now to verify that the gift was sent in August, I noticed that $110 was applied to February's monthly contribution.  This was a check for $110 with a letter explaining that it was specifically to be a gift for Luciana and if this was now how it was going to be applied to please contact me.  I make my monthly payment via internet.  My letter was very explicit.

Steve, we need to wait and see if this letter acknowledges your gift from August before we send an inquiry about it. Since it has been six months since the gift was given, my guess is that it probably will talk about the gift. If it does not, please let us know and we will send an inquiry at that time.

Regarding the check that was processed incorrectly, I do apologize. I have taken care of that for you today, requesting that we transfer that money into a gift for Luciana as you requested. I'm not sure why it was designated incorrectly, but it has been corrected now. She is going to be so happy to receive that gift from you. Thank you for blessing her in such a tangible way :)!

I received a letter from Luciana that was dated October.  From the content of her letter I can tell that she received at least my first letter or two.  However, there was no mention of the monetary gift from August.

Also, I noticed that the second monetary gift I sent recently (with the explicit letter explaining it was a gift for Luciana) is still showing applied to my monthly payments.

Thanks for all you guys do!!!  It might not seem like it, but you are appreciated!!!

Steve, I'm sorry that your letter from her still didn't mention your generous gift that you sent to her in August :(. I want to send an inquiry for this gift and request that a thank you letter be written. In order for our staff to get this for you, we will need a copy of this letter you received to show that it did not mention the gift. Would you be able to send us a copy to socialmedia@compassion.com? I will send an inquiry as soon as I receive a copy of the full letter.

Also, I just double checked your account and your $110 gift was transferred from support and instead will be used as a gift. Please rest assured that Luciana will receive this kind gift from you. It may be taking a few days to show on your My Account. I would encourage you to go to http://www.compassion.com/admin/ClearSession.htm. This will clear your internet history specifically for Compassion and clear the cache from your My Account. It might just need refreshing :). Let me know if it continues to not show on there and I'm happy to send you a donation summary!

I sent an email to the above address with a scan of Luciana's letter (front and back) to prove there was no mention of the monetary gift.

Yes, I received the email, letter, and picture.  I am so pleased that such a modest gift was able to go so far.  And she looks like she is doing well.  (I would like to see a smile, but I can wait until I meet her.)  I appreciate all you guys on the front lines do for the kids!

Emily, all three of you ladies have helped with this, but you and I spoke at length on the phone.  This is the situation when I sent a letter specifying that the check for $110 was to be a gift, but it was entered as monthly support. My giving history still shows $110 for February, given toward general support and not a gift for Gabriela.

Steve, I apologize for the confusion and that it is not showing up correctly on your online account. According to our records, the $110 gift was transferred to be a gift fro Gabriela and at this time it is ready to be dispersed to her.
