I need to cancel my sponsership. Too much financial burden right now. Do not see it clearing up any time this year

Good afternoon Rita,

I am so sorry to hear that you are struggling a bit financially. We completely understand how hard times like this can be.

Per your request, I have canceled your sponsorship of Sabina from your account.

Thank you for your support of Sabrina for the past 4 months. She will remain in Compassion's program while we search for another sponsor for her. If you would like, you may write Sabina a final letter. Please write “Final Letter” across the top of the correspondence, along with your child's name and child's number, (UG062100082). Please send your letter to Compassion's address below:

Compassion International
Colorado Springs, CO 80997

If in the future you would like to sponsor another child, we would be blessed to partner with you again!

Please join us in continued prayer for this child. We know that although you may not be able to continue to sponsor them, your prayers can make an even larger impact.

AfterAva, I am sorry to hear that you are faced with such a difficult decision. I have responded to your posts elsewhere, but want to make sure you receive a response. I am sorry that we are not able to call right now, but we are happy to help you here in this community or you can email socialmedia@compassion.com. If it would help, we would be happy to cover three months for you. This would meant that you would not have to send the donations until May and you could just let us know how you are doing at that point. Please let me know if this would help. If not, let me know and I will make your child available for another sponsor. I have removed your personal contact information for your privacy and security on this public forum.

Kelli, I am sorry to hear that you are faced with such a difficult decision. Please share if there was anything that Compassion could have done to better serve you. If this is due to a short term financial difficulty, we do have some options that may be able to help. For example, we could cover your support for three months and then lower your support amount to $19 for five months. Please let me know if this would help. If not, let me know and I will make your child available for another sponsor.

Thank you.  At this time we will need to cancel our whole sponsorship.  Compassion is a wonderful organization that helps many children. My only concerns are the amount of money spent on mailings and I am not sure my sponsored child receives my letters.  I ask him specific questions in my letters and the letters I receive back are basically the same letter.  This is not the reason I am canceling but I wanted to give you some feedback.

Kelli, wow, that is a lot. :( I know you say this is not why you are cancelling, but I would be surprised if it did not at at least influence your decision. :( I am so sorry that this has been your experience. I just wish we had known about each of these concerns sooner so that we could have worked with your child and his tutor to help improve your experience. I have honored your request and made your child available for another sponsor as of today.

There is no excuse, but please let me explain a little bit in regards to these concerns that you mentioned. It does look like it has been quite a while since his last letter. It is not normal to go longer than six months without a letter. Again, I sincerely apologize.

Also, your child should be responding to your questions. We can send inquiries to check on the children when it has been longer than six months since the last letter and we have record that the child is not responding to the sponsor's questions. That way, we can work more closely with the child to improve the quality of the letters. We keep record of every single letter that is sent back and forth and are able to confirm if your child received them.

In regards to the mailings, we would have been (and still are) more than happy to remove you from our mailing list. At less than 20 cents per mailing, this method is still the cheapest and most effective way of fundraising. Despite the low cost of mailings, over 80 percent of every dollar goes towards programs that directly impact each sponsored child. We want to get the word out about what we are doing and the giving opportunities that are available, but we never want to overwhelm people with mail. Please do let us know if you would like to be removed from our mailing list in the future.
