We have received 1 letter from our sponsored child and in that letter, he said he was going to leave the program in order to be able to help his dad working with him. We asked him not to leave the program and we said we are praying for him and his family etc. We have been waiting day by day for his reply for more than 2 month and we have not heard from him! How do we know if he left the program? Why is he not writing back? Is he and his family ok? Is he receiving help from our sponsorship? Please let us know is is very frustrating not to know absolutely nothing about him. I am uploading his information. Thanks!

If there has only been 2 months since you sent your letter, there may not have been time for the whole process.  This could be further complicated if he is conflicted about what to do and has simply not made up his mind.  Usually you have to wait 6 months since receipt of the last letter without another before initiating a request for a letter. I don't know if having a letter that mentions perhaps leaving changes that at all.  I never even got a first letter from my sponsored girl that left the program.  It got to  4 months (the amount of time before a 1st letter needs to come for sponsored) and we sent a request about what was going on and it must have "crossed in cyberspace" with the project's note that her family had pulled her from the program. So all I got was a final letter and I pray that she at least got the 6 letters I had sent already and they will encourage her for now.

I think that if I were to have received a letter like this, I'd have called Compassion and asked them to check his status in the program. Your letter may not have even reached your child yet, so inquiring with Compassion would probably be a faster route to take to get answers.

Javier, I am so sorry for the concern this first letter from Oscar has brought you. I can tell you care deeply about Oscar being able to continue in the program and in his schooling. From the letter, I see that Oscar wrote to you stating that he had asked his father if he could begin helping him with work instead of attending school, which his father had not yet given him a response on. The Compassion project he attends is separate from his school, so even if he does begin working with his father, he should still be able to attend the Compassion program. As far as I can see in his profile, his family is doing well. When the time comes that he does leave the program, hopefully many years from now as a graduate, Compassion will give you that information as soon as we have received it. For now, he is still attending the program, and I would encourage you to continue writing him letters. He will respond. Like Sarah said, it does take time for the children to receive letters and write back. As you wrote that reply letter at the end of May, he probably just received it recently or will receive it this month. Once he receives a letter, he has 60 days to reply. You should hear from Oscar within the next few months, and I'm sure he will continue to open up more as your relationship develops with him :).
