I was looking through the letter history of my sponsored child Wogayehu. When I clicked 12/22/2016, I saw a letter that was written to my boy Wogayehu. I see two people wrote a handwritten letter to him. Is this letter from his previous sponsors? I want to know if this letter was sent to Wogayehu on Christmas in 2016. After sponsorship is terminated and the formal sponsors still write a letter and mail them out to Compassion headquarter then does it still get delivered to a child?

Hi Jenny! This is a really unique situation. It does look like the former sponsors wrote this letter and it should not have gone through. I sincerely apologize for this error. We are working to correct this for you.

Hi Susan,
I sponsored him from June 24th, 2016 and I believe the former sponsors cancelled before that. I believe that they terminated their sponsorship before that and this is atleast 6 months after the sponsorship has been terminated. So, did Wogayehu get 2 Christmas letters one from me and one from his former sponsors last year?

In addition to that the former sponsors letter was a reply letter to Wogayehu's previous letters. Could you research on when was the last time Wogayehu sent a letter to them last year? It seems like their relationship has been going on the whole year last year.

Jenny, I can't be 100% positive that he received the former sponsor's letter, but it does look like that happened even though it shouldn't have.

There was a letter processed in September from Wogayehu that was printed on stationary to his old sponsors. Most likely, the stationary was actually printed long before you became his sponsor but took extra long in processing due to the issues we were having with the letter system. I am so sorry that this happened and wasn't caught.

Thank you for letting me know! So, that September letter from Wogayehu was delivered to his old sponsors and this 2/22/2016 is a reply letter from them? Does Compassion mail out a letter from a child whose sponsor terminated their sponsorship 4 months after? And I am not sure why their old sponsors would write even after their sponsorship is terminated. I hope Wogayehu or his old sponsors would not get any letter stationaries for them to write a reply letter again. This may confuse a child by keep receiving letters from two different sponsors.

Hi Jenny! You are correct. This would be very confusing for the child! I am sure this was just a one time mistake and will not happen again. Because the letter system has been so behind, it is definitely very possible that a letter would still go through if they had been working on it for such a long time, even if the sponsor had cancelled. We always send the last letter through, even if the sponsor cancelled the account.

I understand that the letter system might have been behind. When you read the content of his former sponsor's letter, it says they just had a Christmas concert, which clearly says that this letter was written around Christmas. If Wogayehu's last letter was processed in September 2016 and his former sponsor wrote in December 2016 then this means the his former sponsor wrote a letter 5-6 months after sponsorship was terminated. I think this is very odd situation that I needed some explanation. That's all. Thank you!!
