Michele, first off thank you so much for investing in your sponsored life. Someone from Compassion will answer your question after the weekend; but hopefully I can help some until then. I am a sponsor too and I can assure you that your sponsored child is very much a real person who needs your love and care. Have you checked your online account for any letters? You may have a letter that is still in translation or something. The new letter process has had some bugs so it is still taking some time for letters to get back and forth. However, you should have received a introductory letter last month. If you don't have a letter on the way the Compassion staff will send an inquiry for you. It usually takes about 8 weeks to here from the inquiry. It maybe that your child missed letter writing day for some reason and that is the delay. I hope this helps! God bless!

Hi Michele,

I am a sponsor, like you.  I have been sponsoring now for 4 years.  I wanted to post today to hopefully help relieve some of your frustration.  The ladies who monitor this forum will be back tomorrow, and hopefully be able to help you a little more.

First of, I want to assure you that your child is real.  If you choose to, you can join the compassion coorespondants group on facebook.  There are many sponsors there who have had the opportunity to actually go on trips and meet their sponsor kids.  I have never been so fortunate myself, but a couple years ago another sponsor went and visited the project one of my boys is at, and she brought me back pictures she took of him at the project, with the gifts I had sent with her for him.  So, I feel very confident in saying that these kids are real, they do attend the projects and they do benefit from our sponsorship!

I know it can be so hard waiting for those letters to come, can't it?  As a new sponsor, you should have received your first letter within the first 4 months of starting your sponsorship.  Since it sounds like you haven't, Compassion can do an inquiry for you to get that letter underway.  Again, the ladies who watch this forum can help you with that tomorrow.  After that first letter, you should be receiving a letter every 2 to 6 months, depending on how often you write.

Compassion made some changes to how letters are handled back in April.  These changes were supposed to have helped speed up the communication process, but as can happen, there have been some problems with this change, and myself and many other sponsors have actually noticed a slow down in the process.  Compassion knows this, and is working to correct it.  It has been frustrating and at times discouraging, but I believe Compassion will work through it, and in time we will see the things they have promised.  So, I encourage you to hang in there for now.  Let Compassion do an inquiry for you, and see how things go after that.

Hi Jamie. Thanks for your comments. You are saying what compassion says. Just trust us and wait. I'm not so inclined to do that, however. Of course I feel and understand the gift of giving. I still don't know if my child sponsored really exists and if the new system in April ( which I remember-- I started before May) works, why have I heard nothing and have been writing since April? No one can confirm for me that she really exists. That is very troubling

Michele,
Susan knows about your child because she has access to her basic biography which states her guardians. She also can make an educated guess as to who you sponsor but there could more people with your name or your email address could have been entered slightly different (typo that went unnoticed or such). I can assure you your child is very real and wlonce the letters start to flow hopefully you will find, as I have and many others, that sponsorship ends up blessing you just as much if not more than your sponsored child. My family sponsors several children and we write to about 50 more. These children and young adults are very real. I often get updates on various situations that my kiddos have made me aware of in previous letters. The letter process is slow right now with the bugs in the new system, so it is a test of patience for sure. We have been sponsoring for almost 3 years and even my husband (who was the biggest skeptical) believe in Compassion now. I hope this helps and I pray your skepticism is relieved; I believe waiting for letters is a tool God uses to teach us patience
