I was assigned another child without my consent

I was told my sponsor child had moved away from the program, and I was contacted to see if I might sponsor another child. I never responded and was automatically signed up for a random child. I am extremely dissatisfied with this whole process. I wasn't even able to find out any more about my dear sponsor child I had previously, for example, I wasn't given the opportunity to send one last letter. AND I was not ASKED to sponsor another child! I was assigned one, without my CONSENT. I know this sounds terrible, but I cannot believe it. Please remove my account, but first please tell me how I can send one last letter to my original child. I need to cancel all payments as soon as possible.

I am so very sorry for the confusion on this. First of all, please know that you are more than welcome to send a final letter to your previous child, Josue. However, we want you to know that he did leave Compassion due to moving to a new area, and in some cases this means that we will not be able to deliver that last letter if we do not have accurate new address information. However, we will absolutely do our very best to get this to him! Please write “Final Letter” across the top of the correspondence, along with your child's name (Josue Danilo Colindres Chavez) and child's number, (GU050200091).

Secondly, I am truly so sorry that you are frustrated by this situation. Anytime a child leaves the program, we do place another child on hold for our sponsor to consider. We do send out notification of your child leaving the program along with a communication that we have placed this new child on hold for you. This notification also lets you know that for your convenience that if you would like to go on to sponsor this new child, you do not need to do anything, whereas if you would like to take a break from sponsorship or choose your own child you will need to notify us. If we do not hear back from you within 5 weeks, we do add this new child to your account. This is what happened in this case. I am so sorry that it seems you never received this notification. 

I have removed this new child from your account today, as requested. I do pray that we are able to get your final letter to Josue. Thank you for contacting us to work this all out and for all that you have done for Josue over the last three years!

I also had a child placed for me to sponsor without my notification. I don’t mind the sponsorship as we were looking to sponsor once one of ours moved but I did not receive a notification asking me to sponsor that child. You can leave the new child on my sponsorship but I would’ve liked some sort of heads up before adding her. Thanks.

Hello Nicholas, I apologize about any confusion about Kevine being added to the account. When Ingabire left the program, we sent out a letter and packet of information for Kevine at that time. I am showing this was mailed out on, December 15, 2017, to the address that we have on file for you. The packet for Kevine indicated that you are not under any obligation to sponsor him, but to please contact us or that he would be added to the account. Please understand that it is our desire to find new sponsors for the children we serve as quickly as possible, but we do not want to offend anyone in the process. We adopted this process at the request of many of our sponsors. I am very sorry if you did not receive this information for any reason. I am not showing that we received return mail from your address, but I would encourage logging in to your online account, just to make sure your information is up to date. I appreciate that you are willing to continue the sponsorship of Kevine. Would you like me to change your preferences so that in the future a child will not be added to your account automatically?

I never received a packet on Kevine for whatever the reason and please update my settings.  Thank you for the response.

Hi Nicholas, 
I have sent you out a new packet today as well as changed your preferences so that we will no longer place a child on hold if one of your children leave the program, but rather you would be able to choose your own child going forward. :)

Thank you, Shannon! I will write a final letter to Josue and perhaps in the future I would consider sponsoring again. I was just very confused by the situation. Thank you for meeting my request, so soon! I appreciate it!
