I would like to mail my sponsored child a letter directly, and a gift. Can I do this? How do I find his address? Can I send a teddy bear?

For safety reasons Compassion does not allow this but if you find someone travelling to your child's country they could bring a teddy bear for you and mail it from inside the child's country.  I would suggest joining the Compassion Correspondent facebook group as many sponsors there travel to the kids countries and take gifts.  I've send several gifts to my kid that way that were not Paper gifts but things like dolls etc.  It will still go through Compassion though, as it will go through the COmpassion office in the child's country to make sure it's a culturally appropriate gift for the child.  You can send your kid letters and it's very recommended that you do, but they have to go through Compassion's USA address.

After the India office in Llevore closes, I still would like to remain in contact with Sharon. I feel Hod brought us together. I cannot face no contact with her

Monell, I am so sorry, but we, nor the church that ran Compassion's program, are not able to facilitate a continuing written relationship between sponsor and child. We know this is a difficult time for sponsors in grieving over the lossof relationship with their child, but without the funds from Compassion, most of our localchurches simply do not have the capacity to maintain communication between theirformer sponsors and children.

Monell Servis - it's possible that your child will find you on facebook if they have access to a computer. You're lucky in that you have an unusual name and you are the only "monell servis" out there....although you do have TWO facebook accounts which could be confusing. But, at any rate, it's entirely posssible that some day your child will contact you. The very first child I sponsored with Compassion contacted me after Compassion closed his center and we've been in touch for years...I see all his posts and I'm friends with all of his family so I get to see all the photographs that they post of him with his little brother and cousins and extended family. It's wonderful. They have NEVER asked me for anything. But the wonderful thing is that I can send gifts and money now...I have asked THEM what I can send. It's actually been awhile but the last thing I sent was money for a computer and I actually mailed his little brother two large stuffed Minions. Good grief....I just looked and it's been almost 3 years since I sent them anything of consequence...THANK YOU for prompting me to look that up! The point is, in all these years, they have never asked for anything, so you might find the same joy if your child locates you. Be careful, though...not everybody is wonderful like my kid and his family. My relationship with him and his family is one of the most important things in my life. I love the days when I have a quick FB message from him saying he was thinking of me or to tell me he won an award at school. Anyway, I hope that your child finds you and may God Bless YOU!!!

Hey everyone! I would just like to clarify that, while Compassion does allow sponsors to continue writing when a child leaves the program, we strongly discourage it due to privacy and safety concerns. The communication is outside Compassion's oversight and is no longer monitored for content. I'm so glad to hear that Marci has not encountered this situation before, but sponsors have received solicitation for money from people claiming to be friends or family members of ever from the formerly sponsored child and that can create an uncomfortable situation. We ask that you prayerfully consider whether this would be a suitable option for you. If you feel this is something you would like more information about, please read about the Things to Consider when Releasing your Contact Information. Thank you!

I'm guessing not....but is there any other spot (aside from facebook) where I can connect with others from Compassion who may be traveling to to my little one's country in the future? (I've been fb-free for about 6 months and was really hoping to keep it that way, LOL - but would love the option of sending gifts this way!) Just wanted to double-check! :)

Monell, did you receive the email we sent out to all sponsors of India children on March 1? That is the latest update we have, which communicates we will be closing our program in India down on March 15. After months of concertedprayer and attempts to resolve matters with the India government, we are stillnot allowed to send funds into the country. These restrictions are preventingus from disbursing funds to our sponsored children and our in-country staff. Asa result, our funds are now depleted. Without funds, we will simply no longer beable to operate after March 15.
