Picture this... You get an e-mail one day from your sponsored child's student center with a video of the entire class saying hello ! I'm sure everyone would agree that the time it takes letters to move back and forth make any kind of active dialog virtually impossible and needlessly frustrating. All we want as sponsors is information. What's the class looks like, the kids in the class, our child in class, what kind of things are hanging on the walls, what does it look like outside, you know... pictures are worth a 1000 words... and videos would be superior. After all, it's not 1940 anymore, and I'm willing to bet ever pastor has a smartphone. Of course sending a copy to all the sponsors would be additional work, but posting the video to a specific url on the web would not.

Hi Steve! What great feedback! I certainly agree with you that it currently takes a long time for letters to go back and forth. We've actually gotten a lot of feedback along the lines that you are talking about. Basically, what we've been hearing is that more information would be great and that photos and videos are engaging. Regrettably, not all of our student centers have internet capability and in many cases the internet access is slow at best. This is only one of the challenges that we're facing to try to bring quicker and bettter quality information to our supporters. However, we've been working to update our systems to provide more information, and particularly quicker communication between sponsor and child. You will see these types of changes in the next two years. Stay tuned!

Steve, While this is slightly different than your original idea, we have started taking videos of children showing their homes or saying hello to their sponsors. We also have videos of a center worker giving a tour of the center. You'll be seeing this more and more. :)

Susan,

That's awesome, I assume that I would see these on my account page should they become available?

Yes, if they are available, they would be in your "My Account" page. Once you're logged in, click on "My Sponsorships" and it would be on that page.

Addy, I agree that it would be incredible to see a video of your child! As much as we would love to provide every sponsor with a personal video of their child; we currently are not able to do this for each of the children sponsored through our program. If Compassion ever takes a video with your child, we will let you know and post it to your My Account. :)

With 1.4 million sponsor kids that would be quite a lot of videos to make and post on our accounts. If we would consider donating some extra money to cover the cost of making these videos this would help Compassion be able to use the money we send to sponsor our kids just for the programs the money is designated for.Considering the things we spend money on that we don't really need that much of I know we can afford to do this.

What if something could be coordinated with sponsors who are going on Compassion trips?

Hi Maggie! Are you suggesting sponsors taking videos while on a tour and then those videos being distributed to the sponsor of that child upon return from the trip?

Regrettably, this is not something we currently have in place, for sponsor's to give us videos that they take and then we distribute them to the sponsor's of those children. Doing this would require finding out who each child is in each video that the sponsor took, who the sponsor is, and when we have multiple trips throughout the year with anywhere from 15-30 sponsor's on each tour, this would be very difficult to coordinate for each person.

I love this idea however, and if you ever go on a Compassion tour and have a friend that also sponsor's in the project you visit, you're certainly welcome to take a video of that child and send it to your friend!

It would be cool if somehow we could find sponsor visit videos on YouTube by country. If sponsors uploaded to their own page, but somehow off the Compassion YouTube page you could find them. The sponsor would have to provide the link to the video to Compassion and it would be really nice if they knew the project number or at least city area that the video shows.

I agree it would be great to see a photo or a video of the various Student Centers.  In the meantime, I found some interesting information just by surfing the Web. For example,  I was delighted to discover that Compassion had a blog post about my child's Student Center in Mexico!  And don't forget YouTube.  It's very possible that they have videos of your sponsored child's city/town/village.
