I'd like to cancel my sponsorship. I have been paying for a number of years now and with all the miscommunication happening with India, I need to cancel. I also understand this has been going on for a year now, where has my money been going, if it's not going to the sponsored child??? Also do I get a refund of the last year of payments as it has stopped going to my sponsored child? My sponsor number is: 3002598 and the child's name is: Thirishalini Sakthivel. Please could someone respond ASAP. Thank you.

Hi Jezlin. I don't work for Compassion, but I know that Compassion has been holding those funds in the hopes that the ministry in India could continue at any moment during the past year or so. I think they mailed out a letter to all of the sponsors who have kids in India to notify them of that when it started. Compassion will issue you a refund if you want or apply your donations towards another child if you decide you might like to continue sponsoring.

I really think Compassion has done a wonderful job with the situation in India. That's a really difficult situation and nothing like that has ever happened before. I'm amazed by how hard they've worked to try to keep being able to operate there. I feel like I've seen updates every step of the way and I don't even have a sponsored child there.

Jezlin, our hearts have been breaking with this devastating situation in India. We are so sorry that you will no longer be able to sponsor your sweet girl Thirishalini anymore :(. We sincerely apologize for any confusion about your sponsorship and where your donations have been going. Have you been receiving our updates? Your donations have been held in a special holding account in hopes that we would have been able to continue our work in India. Since we are no longer able to continue operations in India, Compassion had planned to contact you with options for the undistributed funds. If you would like, we can either transfer those funds to our Critical Needs Fund or we can refund these funds to you. You may also choose to sponsor another child and have those funds applied to their support. Please let me know what you would like to do, and I will be happy to take care of it for you.

On March 1st, we mailed you a letter including all of our updated information regarding India. Included in this letter will be special stationary. I encourage you to use this special stationary to write Thirishalini a final letter to say goodbye. Thank you so much for the investment and sacrifice you have given to provide love and support to Thirishalini. God bless you.

Nancy, we have closed our program in India but we are doing everything we can to deliver final letters and allow the closure of a goodbye. We have seen some conflicting requests from you regarding your donations for 2016 for your Indian children. Please clarify your wishes and I will make sure they are honored. Do you want all of your 2016 donations refunded? Do you want just the donations for your Indian children while we were having the crisis in India refunded? Do you want this money put towards your new child in Ecuador? Thank you again for clarifying all of these requests.
