Joy, it will take some time for the people in Ecuador to assess the damage, if any to student centers, and individual children and their families. If your child has been affected, Compassion will contact you. So, this is one time when no news is probably good news.

We also have a child in Equador, and as you say we will be contacted if she has been affected, we shall wait with hands folded in prayer.

There has been an update posted from Compassion Australia:Crisis Update from Compassion Australia. April 17th.

Ecuador was struck by a 7.8-magnitude earthquake on Saturday night—16 April 2016—with many thought to have lost their lives.

In the 24 hours since the earthquake, international media outlets are reporting that 238 people were killed and at least 1500 were injured, though figures are yet to be confirmed in the immediate aftermath. A state of emergency was declared in six provinces.

The epicentre of the earthquake was near the central coast of Ecuador, 27kms southeast of Muisne and 430km northwest of Guayaquil.

While there are several Compassion child development centres likely to have been affected, there is currently no information available on the impact on Compassion assisted children.

We will keep you updated as more information becomes available.

Unfortunately EC595 is right in the coastal area of Esmereldas where the epicentre is. :(  I said a prayer for your child!  I hope that he, his family, and home are okay!  He must have been terrified!
I have 3 kids in areas, not as close, but that suffered damage.  (Guayaquil and Quito).  So please pray for them as well.
