Immigrant children at border

With all the national focus on impoverished and vulnerable children flooding our border, how can Compassion become a greater influence and part of the solution? I wish we could spotlight how effective Compassions methods are and channel targeted resources both to the children at the border and to their home countries. There are millions of people across the country anxious to do something but who don’t know what steps to take. Can Compassion become an integral part of the national discourse and offer proven solutions that are not as restricted by all the government red tape?

You make a very valid point and offer a good idea that could very well be developed. I also think Compassion has much to offer in this arena and should be in the spotlight.

Thank you so much for your reply. I will pray for clear, God-given strategy for your leadership, for doors to open with influential people in both the media and the US government, and for direct inroads to make a huge difference in this crisis. Jesus operating through the Church is the answer to a world in need and Compassion beautifully displays what is possible when we come together. Thank you!

Melea and Richard, we appreciate your posts and your shared heart for children in poverty. We work throughout Central America and have a network of 1,122 church partners throughout El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Mexico. We have put together a joint task force of leaders from our Central American countries to develop strategies to help families caught in the midst of extreme poverty, gang and domestic violence. We believe that, by combating the crises within these countries, we can play a significant role in addressing the root causes of the border crisis. We actually have been working on a blog post along these lines that we hope to publish today. Feel free to share it once it goes live.
