Now that Compassion no longer can sponsor children in India we've been reassigned to sponsor another child. The mail I received lists one child and says my sponsorship will automatically revert to this child. Compassion has committed me to a different child according to the my account on the Compassion website. Which sponsorship is correct? I would like to move my sponsorship to the child listed on the compassion website.

Unrelated question - if Compassion continues to pursue India support I would like to be reconnected with my current India child. Will Compassion continue to try working in India and if so, will my child and I be reconnected?

Good morning guys,
We understand that this has been very difficult on our sponsors as we begin closing our operations in India. Please know that Compassion will continue to pursue helping India, and we are in hopes that one day we will be able to continue our ministry serving those kiddos. However, we do not see this happening anytime soon, although we do know that God is in control and that this will be in his timing. If we are able to begin sponsorship again, we will make sure to connect with the previous sponsor to see if they would like to pick back up sponsorship. Again, we do not foresee this in the near future, but we will continue to pray!

Hi Jared,
The child that I see on your account is named Julibeth Ariana. Her number is NI030900030. Is the child that you would like to keep?

I received a new child to consider sponsoring after I lost my girl in India; the letter says I have 14 days to decide, and it was dated March 19th so I assume April 2nd is the deadline. My question is: can I get an extension on this 14 days? There is a sad situation going on with another child that I sponsor, and I'm waiting to find out if she is going to be departed from the program; if she is, I will take this other kiddo.

Beth, I understand that you are probably still grieving this loss. :( I am giving you some more time. Please just let us know when you can, preferably by April 16.

Hey Susan, the situation with my other sponsored child still hasn't been resolved, so I won't be able to take Elisa at this time. Thank you for the extension.

Hi Beth, I am so sorry to hear that the issue with your other kiddo has not be resolved. However, I am not seeing Elisa on your account. I am not sure why she was never added when the hold was extended. Do you happen to have her child number, so that I may research this a little further? I want to ensure that she is not hidden on the account and I cannot see her for some reason. Thank you so much!

Hi Shannon! Turns out Elisa is a boy, his number is RW049000198. Back story: I picked up Luz in January as a replacement for my girl in India not knowing that Compassion was going to send out new kids (Elisa, in my case) to consider. Grace is my other child who might be departed and I still haven't heard back about her, so I want to be respectful of her situation and not replace her yet. I guess the timing is just off :-/

Hi Beth,
I apologize for the confusion! I have removed Elisa from your account to ensure that he will not be added at this time. If Grace does end up leaving the program, and you would like, we are more than happy to see if he is still available at that time! :) Have a blessed day!

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled sponsorship in India.

I have been waiting for some news from Compassion on what is going on with the closure of support in India.  I see they are still taking my money, but where is it going?? I thought all the sponsorship in India ended almost 2 months ago.  I haven't received anything.  Can I chose another child. How does that work? Please advise. 3136757

Debbie, Compassion had to close it's programs in India in March. After the closure, we did send to India sponsors child packets for sponsorship consideration. I'm actually not seeing an India child on your account as a previous sponsored child. I do see a girl in Bangladesh, but that country was not affected by the closure of India. Do you perhaps have another account, or was there just some confusion that made you believe we were closing Bangladesh too?
