It has been almost 5 months and Compassion has been unable or un-willing to give the additional Family Gift fund to my sponsor child family.  I have called Compassion and they have received the funds, so there is no problem there.  I have called the Compassion support, but all that they would tell me is to give them more time ... that was over a month ago, and still nothing.  So, is anyone else having a similar problem?

Hi Claude! I am another sponsor and I just wanted to let you know it takes about 3 months for the gift to reach your child and then another 3 months for the child's thank you letter to reach you. So if you sent the gift 5 months ago then you should receive a thank you letter in the next month! If you haven't heard back after six months from the time you've sent the gift, Compassion will do an inquiry for you.

I've sent several gifts over the years to different children, and without fail I've always heard from the child six months after sending the gift.

Claude, I'm so sorry for the confusion and frustration in regards to the very generous family gift that you sent to your sponsored child in April of this year. I apologize that we did not explain things better when you had called. You are completely entitled to receive confirmation that your gift was received and reporting on how your gift was used. We want to provide this for you and do not intend to be evasive about whether your gift was received. However, as Kristen mentioned, it does take some time for the gifts to be sent and for the letters to be sent. Please expect a thank you letter and photo within six months of when you sent your gift.

I can confirm, according to our records, that your gift was dispersed to our country office in Bolivia in May. We send the additional gifts at the same time as the monthly support to save on wiring fees. We do this so that the full amount goes towards your sponsored child and not towards the fees. Your gift was delivered and something was purchased that month in May or June. Then your child sat down and wrote a thank you letter to you. A photo was taken of your child with her gift. Since it takes about two to three months for letters to be sent, I would anticipate that your thank you letter and photo will arrive sometime very soon. If you do not receive this letter by October 4 however, please let us know and we will send an inquiry to get that for you.

So, for clarification as I ahve a slew of birthdays and the colidays coming up, when you say that additional gifts are sent out at the same time as the monthly support, does that coincide with the day the money is debited or is it a separate date? For example, if the monthly support is drawn on the 20th of the month, would I need to have any additional gifts I wanted sent out that month in by the 20th? Thanks!

Hi Lindsay! We wire transfer funds to our country offices during the last week of each month. So if a sponsor gives support/gift on the 5th of August and one sponsor gives support/gift on the 17th of August, both sponsor's donations will be wired to the country during the last week of August (25-29). So if you wish for any gifts to be sent to your child with the August batch, I would encourage you to make sure that it is processed on your account before the 25th of August. I hope that answers your question but please let me know if I need to clarify this at all. :)

Do I understand correctly that if we give a family gift at the first of the month, the family won't receive it until the end of that month?  That might explain why I haven't heard anything on a gift sent the first of February.  I called Compassion and they said they would contact the center and I would hear something soon but that was about a week ago.

If you send a gift in February, the family won't receive it until April-May. "Soon" is a bit of a relative term. I'm sure the center was contacted immediately but it takes a while to get a response :) Usually when I have contacted about something that needs a response from one of my kids' centers, I hear back between 30-45 days later! Hope that helps.

Hi Crissy! Yes, you are correct! Compassion wires support and gifts received each month to the country offices during the last week of that month. In order to be good stewards of your donations, Compassion sends additional gifts at the same time as monthly support to save on fees associated with wiring money. This way, your sponsored child will always receive 100% of the additional gifts that you give to them.

Thanks that adds about a month to the waiting process to hear about a family gift like in my case I gave a gift at the first of feb butbit would have been sent to the center several weeks later.

Hi Crissy! I am so sorry for the confusion on the timing with gifts and for the delay in hearing back. We have contacted our field office and will send you that thank you letter and photo just as soon as possible (in about forty-five days or less).

Thank you.  It is really too bad it takes so long to hear after an extra gift.  I think the long wait decreases the potential amount of gifts/money that may be given.  I would not send out another family gift until I knew what the family did with the first gift.  It has already been 7 months and if I wait another 45 days, I will only be able to give an extra gift once a year. I understand the process but I think its unfortunate.

Crissy, you're right that seven months is a long time and it really should not take that long. I am so sorry you have waited so long to hear how your gift was used. :( Please know that your gift was appreciated and went a long way to provide above and beyond for your child. We will notify you just as soon as we can with the word we receive from our field office.

I have written to support and received nothing back yet and its been over a week. It was my understanding that if you give a gift to your sponsored of $60 or more you will receive a picture of your child with the gifts that she picked out. I received nothing.  I received a letter that her mother bought food with the family gift but nothing on the large gift that was sent to my child. I am very disappointed.

You should have gotten a photo if your gift was $60 or more.. I'm sure one of the Compassion reps that monitor this forum will be able to help you!

JoAnne, I am so sorry for the delay in our response to your email. It looks like we just responded as of this morning. Photos are so precious so I can understand why you were disappointed that you did not receive one for your very generous gift.  It is likely that the staff just forgot to attach the photo to the thank you letter. I am sending an inquiry today to request this photo for you. As soon as we receive this photo, we will send it to you.

Thank you Susan for your response. I feel you should receive a photo when the large monetary gifts are awarded as that makes you feel good about helping and you see the joy on your childs face. But when Compassion doesn't follow through with what they say they will do, it makes you hesitant on sending the larger gifts. I am still waiting for my photo.

Hi JoAnne, thank you for giving a very generous financial gift to your sponsored child. I'm sorry that you did not receive a photo with your letter. It sounds like it might have just been a simple mistake. We all make mistakes sometimes. I believe that Susan sent an inquiry for you to request your photo. That's Compassion following through with what they say they'll do. As soon as they receive the photo they'll send it to you. Thank you for your patience. Have a great day!

Hi JoAnne, my problem is a little similar to yours. My monthly payment has not been charged for this month. I've called compassion 3 times already so that they can charge the payment and still no luck. I've been checking my bank account to see if the payment has been posted and it hasn't its been a week already. I don't know whats going on but one thing for sure is that I don't want to loss my sponsored child. At this point i don't know what else to do. I hope that your problem can be resolved soon.

Hey Teresa! I looked into your situation and noticed we have tried to process your donation for this month a few times over the phone with you. The credit card you called with on the 24th declined when we tried to process it again. We probably have a bad expiration date or incorrectly keyed the number. I am sorry this keeps happening to you! We really want to correct this problem and get your donation in for this month. Do not worry, you are in no danger of losing David. He is still receiving all the benefits of the program. I am sure he is having a blast and is truly happy to have such a caring sponsor! :)
