Is it possible to switch to a prayer or letter-writing sponsor only if I am unable to make the payments?

I am an undergraduate college student in my final semester. I am unable to meet my tuition bill for this semester and thus willl not be able to meet my Compassion International donation for my sponsor child. I believe that I need to cancel my subscription, but would hate to break off that relationship and stop my sponsorship. I will be unable to make any payment for the next 5 months at least. But truthfully, I'm not sure if I will be able to afford the payments for months after that depending on post-graduation jobs or housing. Is my only option stopping sponsorship? I've heard that some sponsors are prayer sponsors or letter-writing sponsors while a company provides the financial funds. How might this be possible?

Rachel,

I know that college can be a challenge to fund and when you graduate there are no guarantees that you will be able to find a job right away. All this can be nerve racking! You are so close to being done and it really sounds like you are a responsible, intelligent, and capable young woman. I will pray that God will make a way for you and that you will be able to finish strong.

While we do have a prayer or letter-writing program, it is not possible to do this for a specific child who is not sponsored. This means that while we could definitely change your commitment to just prayer and letter writing, you would not be able to do this for your current sponsored child. If you were to cancel, we would need to reserve the letter writing and prayer for her new sponsor. The correspondent program is setup to connect sponsors who are able to donate but do not have the time to write with sponsors who have the time to write but cannot afford to sponsor. This way the child receives both the support and the loving letters. The only commitment is to pray for and write to the child who is assigned at least three times each year. Please let us know if you would be interested in this option, and we can place you on our waiting list for when a child becomes available for this program.

We can cover a few months of support for you to help you to get through this next semester. That said, I would ask that you prayerfully consider this decision and whether you would really be able to continue this summer. I know it is a really hard decision. Please rest assured that your child will be taken care of either way as we will make sure they have the support they need.

Thank you for your quick reply. Unfortunately, I need to cancel my sponsorship completely because I don't think I will be able to support my child even after a few months of support from COmpassion. Thank you for the offer of support. I would love to be put on the waiting list to pray for and write letters to a child. Can you assist me in navigating this process?

Rachel, I placed Jeffry back up for sponsorship this afternoon and also placed you on the waiting list to receive a correspondent child. It can take up to a month to receive a child, but it may go faster for you since this would be your first one.
