I have been watching the escalating problems in the capital city of BF and, knowing Bonkoungou lives there, was wondering if his center activities have been suspended or if the center has been affected at all. Thanks!

Hi Kristen,
I too was concerned about my Abiba, as she lives there also. I inquired a few days ago, and this is the reply: "Be assured, none of our children are being affected by the protests. If there was an issue where the children or their families were in jeopardy, we would suspend activities at the center and notify you and all of the sponsors who have children in those areas."

This made me feel better. I hope that it also helps ease your mind.

Hi Kristen,

This was posted on one of the Compassion Facebook pages.

Crisis report - Compassion - Burkina Faso - November 3

Protests broke out in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso on 30 October 2014 in response to the president’s desire to extend his term.

Several buildings including two prominent hotels and a bank were damaged. The president has now stepped down and it is believed that the violence will dissipate as a result.

...

The Compassion Burkina Faso field office and child development centres in the area have temporarily closed for the safety of our staff and children. There were no direct threats to Compassion’s programs, but there is concern about collateral damage. They hope to open again soon if the situation calms down.

Please pray for the safety of our staff and children and for peaceful resolution of the situation.

Compassion Burkina Faso will keep us updated as more information becomes available.

Thank you Denise. Yes I was wondering if my child's center was one of the ones that was temporarily closed. I saw that had been posted and it had me thinking about it. :)

Hi everyone! I hear a few of you asking if your children were affected by the temporary closure of some of the centers in the capital city. Regrettably, our country office in Burkina Faso did not provide a list of centers or children affected because it was just a temporary closure. We believe that because the president has stepped down, protests will die down soon, and there is not a great threat of continuing violence in the area. All of our children are now back in school and center activities continue. Should violence break out again, and your children are affected, we will notify you individually.
