Most likely yes. We've received two letters from our boy in Haiti that he has been unable to go to school. Luckily he's getting to center (to write the letters) but it still concerns me. Please pray!

Hi, Theresa! Thank you so much for reaching out to us with your concern for your sponsored child. According to our records, Marie has not been directly affected by the civil unrest in Haiti. However, we are continuously receiving new reports of how our children and centers are being affected, and if we do receive news that Marie has been affected, we will contact you and let you know. As Sarah said, your prayers mean the world to these kiddos and families!

I am also concerned about our sponsor child. She can not go to school due to the unrest. Is there a way to send books to her?
How do I get updates on her safety and well being?

Lori, please rest assured that Valencia has not been directly affected by these sad events in Haiti. Please know that if Valencia were to ever be affected by any crisis or natural disaster, Compassion would contact you directly. In these cases, no news is good news. I completely understand and appreciate your concern for sweet Valencia and your desire to send her tangible gifts. Regrettably, for several reasons, we are not able to send packages to your child. Instead we encourage you to send a monetary gift. The child and family, with the assistance of church staff, will purchase what they need most. This also benefits the local economy of your sponsored child by supporting local businesses.

There are other fun ways to bless your kiddo, too. Along with a personal letter, you can send: stickers, bookmarks, musical greeting cards, and pop-up cards. These items will be physically delivered to your child. Please keep in mind that items sent without a personal letter will not be delivered to your sponsored child. You can also send: letters, photos, postcards, greeting cards, coloring pages and paper crafts. However, your child will not receive the original items. The items will be scanned and sent electronically. The total number of items (including stationery and the letter to your child) should not be more than six sheets, and each flat paper gift item should not be larger than 8.5” x 11”. If you have any further questions about our letter writing guidelines, more information is available here. Thank you so much for blessing your sweet child and keeping her and her family in your prayers.

I have the same concerns for the little girl I sponsor. The emails I received from Compassion state I will be contacted directly if she is personally impacted. However, her last letter stated demonstrations have prevented her from attending school regularly. I sent a monetary gift to her family to help assist them during this time, because it was the only thing I could think to do outside of prayer. Is it possible her Compassion center has been negatively impacted and needs extra assistance as well?

Hi Jamie,

Thank you so much for the love and concern you have for your sweet child! Please know that if your child's project is affected directly, we would also let you know. With that said, if you have not received notification of that, you can rest assured knowing they are not directly affected. However, you are of course still welcome to provide a project gift if you feel led to do so. Additionally, thank you so much for blessing your sweet child and their family with a gift! That will truly be a blessing to them!
