It may seem pretty odd but I have questions about some random items. For instance, I work in a sushi restaurant and it would be kind of fun to be able to send a pair of the kids chopsticks to my kid who had probably never even seen them before, etc. Things like that. I have a few small objects that are less than a quarter inch thick and non perishable and I am wondering if I have to send first and hope for the best. I would rather know before hand so I don't mention it in my letter.

(I know it's not paper but it is also not metal or plastic! haha and they are super fun)

Only paper items can be sent as everything that Compassion sends has to be classified as a document. So unfortunately chop sticks would not go through. However you can reach Compassion at 800-336-7676

Hi Jessie! I so appreciate your creativity and desire to show your child some new and interesting things! I can tell you are a great sponsor! Regrettably, we cannot send wood items through customs, so we would not be able to send the chopsticks. However, you could always send a picture of chopsticks and describe them in a letter to your sponsored child! To give you an idea of what can be sent, we have a list of examples here. When in doubt about whether an item can be sent, feel free to post here (we love to see photos around here :) ) or call 800-336-7676 to ask.

Jessie, are you on Facebook?  There is a private Facebook group called Compassion Sponsors/Correspondents Facebook Forum and to join send an email to Susan (above) at and ask to join the private Facebook forums, there is also one for correspondent sponsors.  One of the members just spent a month (MANY hours) making a site for sponsors and correspondents of ideas for letters and things to send our sponsor kids!  Hope to see you there!  The reason it is private is to protect the kids so you don't have to worry about posting their pictures, names etc. not to keep anyone away.
