I received a letter that my sponsored child's development center (Grace Child Development Center in the Philippines) has "not been able to meet all of Compassion's standards for ministering to children in need" and is on probation. The letter was so vague that I'm wondering if there are any other details you could give me about the situation and when it might be resolved?

Also, I sent my sponsored child a birthday gift a month ago-will it reach her? Should I suspend my payments until I know if the situation is resolved?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Hannah. I'm so sorry that Keziah's project is going through this suspension period. We do regular audits on our centers to make sure that the funds are being used the way they are supposed to be. When we audited Keziah's center, we found that there were some financial mismanagement concerns that needed to be addressed. We are working with the center staff to provide training and are monitoring their records carefully over the next few months.

Your sweet birthday gift and any letters you send during this time will be given to Keziah :). In most project suspension situations, the projects are to still continue their regular programs and activities for the children, so Keziah still gets to participate in all of her normal activities there. The only thing that is different is the support you send monthly is not able to go to her project while we sort out these financial issues. The support will instead go to help other children in other centers who are waiting for their own sponsors be able to participate in the program activities. Although your donations aren't going directly to Keziah during this time, you are still making an incredible impact on the lives of children living in poverty.

Okay, thank you! I'm glad that Compassion makes sure the centers are using funds well.
