I received a package today with an update from our LDP student's 1st and 2nd years at university. It's got some good info offering glimpses into the world of this young woman, which I much appreciate. So first, thank you!

And a question -- is the update considered as correspondence, or is it a separate thing from letters? The last letter I received from her was in April and I'm wondering whether to keep hoping another will be on its way soon.

Hi Debi! Aww, those updates are always exciting to receive in the mail! :) I am checking my own mailbox every day for my LDP student's new info; I can't wait to get it!

The update is considered separate from the letters. I don't see that we have had a letter processed from Julia since April either, so I am going to send an inquiry to the country office in Kenya for you. It's possible that she has been really busy with school or didn't realize she never sent a letter she completed since April to you.

My last letter from my girl ended up being 3 pages (Microsoft Word Document, size 11 Times New Roman Font) plus and extra 4th page containing 9 photos.
As it seems to be something happening with all Kenyan kids, I'd be tempted to inquire with Compassion Canada, but not sure I should or not.
She is SOOOOO busy... She is in her 3rd year to become a News Anchor, she has her own radio show, she bought some land and owns a small chicken farm that she gets her sister to manage when she's at university, she plays soccer, she volunteers at different CDC's helping with VBS and writing Newsletters for them and taking photos of their special events for them, she does street missions with the church, and a few other activities as well...
I'm just not so sure she sleeps lol!

Teresa Dawn, wow! It sounds like your LDP student is very, very busy. She may even be overwhelmed and just doing the minimum of letter writing. I am in school and work full time myself so I can't imagine being as busy as she is. I would give her some grace in the number of letters she writes, especially since she does write very long letters for an LDP student.

Thanks Susan :D  I think it's a project wide thing with Kenya, since, like I said, I know two more with Kenyan LDPs that write at the same time as my girl (They both write often to their kids too and a part of the FB correspondent group) but I don't think I'll ask Compassion Canada about it.  I don't want her to feel pressure to write more if it suddenly changes when she's so busy already lol!  The amount of details in her letter have allowed me feel I know her better than most my kids that write more often!

Susan, you do a great job working full time at Compassion while also being in school. That's a very hard thing to do.

Thanks, Adam! It's certainly a challenge, but nothing impossible without God's help. :)
