You will receive your first letter from your financially sponsored child within 4 months. But it will vary how long it will take within that. Based on whether the project already has a first letter written and on hand or if they have to wait for the child to be at the project to write a new first letter (perhaps because the one on hand is too old). Each project is locally run and does things their own way, within the project guidelines.

ETA: I did have two children sponsored from the same project, sponsored 2 months apart. I heard from the second one first. But partly that was due to the first child's parents pulling her out of the program so in retrospect, there may have been trouble getting her to write the first letter and they were working on convincing her parents to let her keep going.

Hi Debra! Thank you so much for reaching out to us! Yes, Sarah is exactly right! Some projects do have their first letter on hand, and once they know that the child is sponsored, they send the first letter right away. Each project does this very differently, so this is completely normal! If you don't receive a first letter from your sweet girl in the Dominican Republic within four months that you sponsored her, let us know and we can send an inquiry to the field office.
