  • sad, my husband and I ate considering sponsorship of a child, but on looking so many are not reviving letters and packs. If you send your child a gift, do they get it? Their seems to be no relationship with the sponsor and the child. we're struggling to

Rhonda, I highly recommend Compassion. You can research them and see that they are a highly reputable organization. My family and I have been sponsoring for almost 3 years. We have several sponsored children and many correspondent children. There has been a slow down in correspondence since the new system for letter processing rolled out due to some bugs in the system. That is to be expected with any new process that is put in place. You can send your child stickers, book marks, and musical cards. You can also send monetary gifts. I can assure you that the children get their gifts as we sent our children both stickers and monetary gifts and have received thank you letters each time. Compassion is a huge organization and one has to expect a hiccup or two in getting letters and packets processed. I will say that sponsorship and correspondence can be an exercise in patience, but the blessings we have received in return by getting to know our kiddos are well worth the wait! Some children do take more time to open up than others, but overall I have had an amazing experience getting to know all of my children! God bless!

Thank you heather! Its just that it's getting confusing with all the posts. Im on the understanding the sponsorship money suports the community, but if i send gifts, they get it, right? We really want to make a difference to a child, but not the government of that country if that makes sense. Xxx

Hi Rhonda, I'm another sponsor like heather. I've been sponsoring for over five years and have 12 kids at the moment and have sponsored others in the past as well.  It's true that there's been a slowdown because of the new system, but the kids absolutely get our letters and gifts. I sent a family gift in December of last year and received a letter and photo this week of what was bought with the money I sent. When you send a financial gift, all but 10% goes to the child/family. The center will help them decide how best to use the money and will take the family or child to buy the items. The 10% that the child/family does not receive is used to cover the fees associated with transferring money.

I highly recommend sponsoring through Compassion. While it's true that there have been hiccups with the new system being implemented, I think it's obvious from the response of the staff here that they are working hard to get things running smoothly. It takes time to get so many centers and country offices on board with the huge change that was just rolled out a few months ago.

Rhonda, also remember this is a forum where people post issues and questions for the Compassion staff to look into or resolve. The number of problems are going to significantly outnumbered praises for that reason. When you take into consideration all the children and sponsors involved with Compassion the number of inquiries and problems are small. Kristen explained the gift distribution well. The money for Compassion supports the children, their families, and the Compassion programs. Hope this helps clarify some of your questions. God bless!

Rhonda, I am so glad that some of our most helpful and passionate sponsors were able to help calm your fears and concerns regarding beginning a sponsorship through Compassion. I couldn't have said anything better than that, and hearing from current sponsors holds so much weight with people like you who are considering it!

We don't currently have any children from India available at the moment due to a sensitive situation that is going on in the country right now. I'm happy to send you an email explaining the situation if you'd like me to! We are also supposed to have an update for sponsors within the next week or so hopefully.

Rhonda, I am so happy you and you husband found a child to sponsor! Thank you so much for blessing him with your sponsorship! He would love anything you send him. Compassion has a cute birthday card option and birthday stationary you can use when writing online. You can upload photos too. If you mail in your letter/card you can include stickers, bookmarks, and musical cards. The letters/regular cards, photos, and coloring sheets that you may choose to mail in will be scanned and electronically sent. You can send in 6 sheets (I think) total at a time. Be sure to write your sponsor # and his child # on the items. Again, I am so happy for all 3 of you! Happy writing and God bless!

Awwww thanks darling, we are feeling like we ate the ones that are blessed, we are so grateful! I've got a couple of paper books, ceiling hangers as its birthday, birthday card, later and photos! Was told, as long as its less than 6mm thick and can fit in an A4 envelope and only if paper or cardboard it'll be OK! I've bought more bits today, but it'll go in my next envelope lol I've also got some sticky labels to attache to everything! I'm also going to make a photo album in a thin book, but once i get some photos of him and maybe of his family too, as e want to add them to the album. Then as i send him up to date photos of us he can add them to the book! I'm on fire at the moment, so need to take heed and think! Thanks hun xxx
