My friend and I enjoy browsing the website and sharing links for unsponsored kids on our Facebook pages. In the past, we have requested a little more info about the child to share with the link (how long has the child been waiting, has the child been sponsored previously, and has the child received any letters). We have found that when we have this info, 1) it is easier to find sponsors on Facebook and 2) if we hear that a child has never received a letter, we will actually consider rearranging our budget to afford a new kid. (I understand that there are many kids with many needs, we just find lack of letters being an easier way to choose a child!). Recently, though, we have been told that Compassion will not release that information. We feel like we have been scolded for asking. We ask because we are enthusiastic about getting kids sponsored and about kids getting letters. Just allowing us to learn the letter writing history would be immensely valuable. I just wanted to share that here because we would appreciate if we could learn that info. I sometimes feel like the reps I speak with or email with don't understand why I would be set on one child and his or her info when there are hundreds, but Compassion has always said they are about linking one child with one sponsor. This is just one way my friend and I would be encouraged in our trying to get kids sponsored. (Also, we are both advocates, just FYI.) Thank you for what you do. We love Compassion and our relationships with our kids.

Hello Berry31! First off, I want to personally thank you from the bottom of my heart for being a champion for these children. We are blessed to have advocates and sponsor's like you and your friend, who passionately pursue the call that Jesus has placed on your lives in advocating for the least of these. I am so very sorry if you have feel as if you were being scolded for asking details about a specific child and I appreciate you bringing this concern and idea to our attention.

I want to assure you that Compassion strongly values the relationship between a sponsor and child. Although we cannot provide personal information about the previous sponsor as you can imagine, we can provide information such as how long the child has been unsponsored, letter history, and how many sponsor's the child has had in the past. I apologize if there was any misunderstanding when you had requested this previously. When a child knows they are loved, cared for, and that someone hopes in, believes in, and is praying for them; this significantly increases the child's self worth and is a driving force in helping release that child from poverty. We understand that this happens not only at the center that the child attends, but also in the encouraging letters that our sponsor's write. Thank you so much for wanting to support children that have not received letters in the past and for your desire to reduce the length of time a child waits for another sponsor. If you ever have a specific child that you are interested in finding a sponsor for, please let us know on here or email us the child's ID number at socialmedia@compassion.com and Susan or I would be more than happy to give you the information you mentioned above. Just in case you weren't aware, Compassion also has a feature on our website that lets you select longest waiting children.

Again, thank you for your enthusiasm in speaking up for children and for your long term support of our ministry. I am excited that you share our vision and have a strong desire to build relationships with, and find loving sponsor's for these precious kiddos!
