Evelyn is our sponsored child, GU4460105. I was going back through all of our paperwork and rereading our intro packet we received. In the last section there is a page titled "learn more about" and within the paragraph information we will receive about Evelyn: it mentions periodic updates on her progress, periodic photos,  newsletters about your work in her country. In five years, we have received one newsletter from her project facilitator, which was 4.5 years ago, 2 pictures, and zero updates. Are these updates and newsletters available on line and we are missing them, or has there  been some other breakdown in our communication? How big of a birthday or christmas gift do we have to give in order to have it acknowledged with a note of photo as to what the gift was? Any additional information about Evelyn, her life, her school would be greatly appreciated. The letters we have gotten have been very generic, and we understand the cultural difficulties, but would still like to know more about what is happening...update this evening when getting the mail we had a new photo of Evelyn and and our first "update", which really was just generic info we  had already received about the program, just wanted to know we did get those 2 pieces. Would sure love to have a photo of her in her classroom, with her family,  with a gift, doing something that shows her life there, etc. It is heartbreaking to see her looking so sad in her pictures.

Kim, I'm so sorry that you have not received a lot of information about your sweet girl and her country since you became her sponsor 5 years ago. I completely understand your desire to learn more about Evelyn and know as much as you can about her and where she lives. We are very grateful for all the wonderful letters you have written to her over the years to foster a relationship. I see that you haven't received a letter from Evelyn since May, so I have sent an inquiry to the field office in Guatemala. They will ensure that Evelyn is well, and they will ask her to write another letter to you :). It will take 6-8 weeks to receive a response from our field office, and we will be in contact with you as soon as we hear from them.

Child profile and picture updates are updated every 18 to 24 months (approximately 2 years). I see that Evelyn's profile has been updated 4 times over the past 5 years, so you should have received 4 pictures. I am deeply sorry if you have not received all of Evelyn's past picture updates. Regrettably, our system only keeps the child's current picture and their previous picture, but I would be happy to email you these pictures if you would like. Sometimes, these updates can be more generic if there are not a lot of changes in the child's life. I encourage you to ask Evelyn questions about herself and family for more specific updates. If you are struggling to receive answers to your questions, we suggest highlighting your questions or listing them out, so that these questions stand out to the child and her tutor.

I'm so sorry that you have not received Guatemala's Regional Country Newsletter in the past. Regrettably, Regional Country Newsletters were discontinued in June of 2016. However, you can find all of this information and any updates online here: http://www.compassion.com/about/where/guatemala.htm. You should also continue to see newsletter updates on your online My Account as well :).

Gifts are such a blessing, and we are very grateful for your generosity. You should receive a thank you letter for any gift amount that you give to your kiddo. However, if your gift amount is $60 or more, then you will also receive a picture of your child along with the gift purchased. If you send a family gift of $60 or more, then you will receive a picture of the family with the gift purchased. It can take up to 6 months from the time you give a gift to receive a thank you letter and photo :). I think hanging up Evelyn's picture in your classroom is a wonderful idea! If you would like, I am happy to send you a poster of Evelyn. The poster size is about 11" x 14". Please let me know if you'd like me to send one to you :).

We received an electronic letter from Evelyn this week that was written August 25. With the new electronic system, I was surprised it took that long for us to receive it. Is that the normal that you have been experiencing?

Thank you for additional information above

Kim, I am so glad that you have recently received a letter from Evelyn! I'm so sorry that this letter took a while to get to you :(. As you know, we have been undergoing many system updates and changes with the goal of speeding up letter processing. Regrettably, we have encountered more bugs along the way than we had anticipated. Because of this, we have had to return to manual translation until the new translation software is up and running. These system bugs have, sadly, caused a delay in letters being delivered. Our wonderful field staff and IT Team have been working diligently to resolve the issues and we are now seeing huge improvements! We are now seeing many letters processed and delivered faster than before :).

Evelyn's community is South of Cobán, and it is fairly central in Guatemala.
