HI, I am moving to South Africa for a mission opportunity for six months. I sponsor two children and while I am not having trouble paying monthly now, I am worried about making payments starting in January. I really really want to keep my kids, but I will have no income while over there. Is there any ways to decrease the payments so I can save up the money for those six months? I really don't want to give up my kids and I'm praying that God will provide the money for my children.

Hi Kaitlyn! That is so exciting! What will you be doing while you are in South Africa? I'll be praying that you have a safe and blessed trip! One thing we could do is to cover your support until the end of December. That way, hopefully you can save up enough to cover the six months you will be in South Africa. If you need, we could also lower your support amount to $19 each child for the six months that you will be gone. Please let me know if either or both of these options would help. I want to be able to see you to be able to keep your children if you can if you can because it sounds like you really have a heart for them.

I'm a missionary, can someone else sponsor my child during the 6 months I'll be volunteering?.
I am going to be a missionary for at least the next 6 months, and I need to know what to do about my sponsored child. Is there any way that I can release her to another sponsor for this amount of time, and then take her back when I'm done? Thanks.

Hi Ruby! I merged this onto Kaitlyn's question as you two had very similar concerns. That is so exciting that you are going to be a missionary! Where are you going? What will you be doing? The Compassion sponsorship is a one-to-one sponsorship and we would need to reserve the sponsorship for another sponsor indefinitely, should you need to cancel the sponsorship. However, we do have some options and are willing to work with you to help you to keep the sponsorship during this time. I'm not sure exactly when you are going on missions, but we would be happy to help you with what we are helping Kaitlyn with (cover three months and then lower your support amount to $19 for three or six months). We would prefer, if at all possible, that you would be able to pay at least part of the sponsorship, because we are a non-profit and the funding for your child will come out of our other funds during this time. Every little bit helps. Please let me know if these options would help or if you need to stop sponsoring completely. I would be so sad if it came down to that but I understand that it is difficult to do something like this when you are living on support yourself.

Hi, Susan! Thanks so much for your response. I'm leaving on September 13th, to go to YWAM Los Angeles, to be part of a school that takes action against human trafficking. We will be helping the victims out and showing God's love. I think I would be able to do the reduced cost and the cover for three months. What would that come out to be? $57? And then, if you are covering the three months, is that money I will need to pay eventually, or is it just done? Thanks.

Ruby, that is incredible! I have several friends that have gone through YWAM and have said it is a life changing experience. Thank you for listening to God's call on your life and going into the world to speak truth into lives of so many people who feel enslaved in this industry. I will definitely be praying for your trip!
I have updated your account so that your support for Salama is current through November, which comes to $114 total to answer your question. This is our gift to you and you do not need to worry about paying these months back to Compassion. Your rate will also be reduced to $19 for 6 months beginning in December. If you are able to resume the $38 earlier than expected, just let us know and we can update your support at that time.

Hi Emily, thank you so much! I really appreciate your prayers:) Thank you for helping me with supporting Salama, I'm so grateful. The $19 a month sounds like it will work out fine. Also, is there any way I'd be able to pay December, January, February all in December? Because those are the months that the YWAM DTS is in a foreign country, and I will have very limited access to the internet. God bless you.

Is there any way I can pay the money for December, January and February now? Cause I'll be in Thailand with rarely any internet access.

Ruby you can pay ahead by changing the amount on the payment page. Just delete the $38 and type how much you want to pay. For instance three months of payments would be $114. You can also call Compassion and they can process the payment for you.

Good morning, Ruby! Your trip to Thailand is coming up so soon, I bet you're getting excited! You are certainly welcome to pay ahead for those three months, no problem. Just like Kristen mentioned, you can do this through your My Account on www.compassion.com or you can call our office as well at (800) 336-7676. If you would like me to process your request for you using the card we currently have on file, please email us at socialmedia@compassion.com. We can verify that we still have the right card and process your request :).
