This is a personal question about my child. He is referred to with 2 separate names. I was given his full name, but when I got his information in the mail, the entire booklet called him by a different name. I'm a little bit confused, and was wondering if this is common. I've written him 2 letters and and concerned I using his name incorrectly.

Hi Dani! Happy to help! Many Thai children have both an official legal name and a nickname or personal name that may be totally different. Similarly, your child has a first name of Patiparn and goes by Doraemon. We recommend referring to him as Doraemon in your letters and this is why his packet refers to him in this way. I'm sure it's fine if you used his other name though as that is still his name even if it is a little more formal. :)
