Hello I've been sponsoring a child here since 9/13. As of Monday, May8, she no longer appears on my account. I havent gotten any notification of anything happening to her..NOTHING. I called in and after a brief investistigation, they told me the she abruptly left the program.. No reasons given. I am very upset. I have created a bond with this child and she has praised and prayed for me and i have for her and her family. Has this happpened to anyone before????

Lucio, unfortunately this does happen from time to time for many reasons. I had 3 children leave the program. 1 who moved to an area with no Compassion program near by and two that left rather quickly, for various reasons. I am so sorry you lost your child, I know how hard it is, but know that your investment and relationship with your child is something they will cherish for their lifetime. God bless!

Lucio, I'm so sorry your child left the program. It can be difficult to form a bond with the family and then have them leave.
My first sponsored child abruptly left the program as well. The project staff tried to get her to go back, her parents wanted her to go back, but she refused. I don't know why. It was difficult, but not much I could do about it. I went on to sponsor other kids and form bonds with them as well!

One of my boys completed the program and graduated from seminary! Another is a driver and well equipped to support his family. Some endings were not as happy. My longest sponsored child passed away last year. It was difficult to process.

Sponsorship will not always have a happy ending. It won't always go the way we planned. But you can be sure that the time and prayers you poured into your sponsored child were not in vain.

Maybe one of the ladies that monitor this forum can give you more info on what happened and why. I'll be praying for you!

Good afternoon Lucio,

I am so sorry to hear that Maylin left the program. I am not sure if you were given this information, but I do see that she left the program because she moved to a new area. I know it hard to lose a child, no matter why they left, but I do want you to know that often times, this is actually a very positive thing. From what we have seen, most children who move to another area, do so because they have a better opportunity there. This may mean that they will be in a safer neighborhood, their parents or caregiver may have a better job, or maybe they will be able to go to a better school, or begin attending school if they could not do so before. Again, I know this does not make it any easier to lose your child without any warning. But I do want you to know that your sponsorship has changed her precious little life forever. Please let us know if there is anything that we can do to help you through this process.

Hi Lucio,

You are more than welcome to write Maylin a final letter. Please write “Final Letter” across the top of the correspondence, along with your child's name and child's number, (ES085200210). Please send your letter to Compassion's address below:

Compassion International
Colorado Springs, CO 80997

Although we do know that she is living in a new area, there is a possibility that our staff will still be able to get that letter to her. We cannot guarantee anything, but we would be more than happy to try. Furthermore, I do see that there is one last letter on its way to you, as well. Sometimes this is written by your child, but sometimes it is written by someone at the child center who worked closely with them. I encourage you to keep and eye out for this letter over the next few months.

Please join us in continued prayer for this child. We know that although you may not be able to continue to sponsor them, your prayers can make even a larger impact.
