Never heard back about scheduling a meet with my sponsored child

I sent a request to set up a meet with my sponsored child through the Compassion website months ago and NEVER heard back to schedule. I have moved to the country we sponsor in months ago and it pains me that we have not been able to travel to Santo Domingo to see her since we visit that city often. Can someone please help to make this possible or are we just out of luck?

When i requested to visit the second girl she was removed and i received a letter saying she also moved from the thailand region i requested to visit and the 3rd child was from venezuela. I removed my credit card since then.

Yadi, I am so sorry for the concerns you have that have caused you to doubt the integrity of Compassion. Regrettably, there are scam organizations out there and they have made it very difficult for organizations that are legitimately doing good work. For this reason, I encourage donors of any organization to do their research. Yes, please do Google us and read reviews of what people are saying about Compassion International. Look at what watchdog organizations, like Charity Navigators, say about Compassion. Go look at our financial records which are posted publicly on our website. Read the research that was done by a third-party researcher about the effectiveness of our program. If you can, travel to see what we do firsthand and meet your child. Please do research us and prayerfully consider whether this is the organization you are called to give to.

We are so grateful that you responded to God tugging at your heart to sponsor a child through Compassion International. I hear your heart for this ministry and your desire to meet your child. Please know that our desire is for every sponsor to have this opportunity, and it breaks my heart to hear that your attempts to visit your children were unsuccessful due to the children leaving the program. I completely understand your skepticism as your children leaving the program was an unfortunate occurrence. Regrettably, we cannot guarantee that children will remain in the program full term, and there are many variables involved with each individual child. If you would be so kind to provide your sponsor number or child number, I would be happy to provide additional information.

I cannot express how sorry I am to hear of the doubts you have about Compassion and whether your one-to-one sponsorship is real. We sincerely look forward to earning your trust and proving our hearts for serving our sponsors and children with excellence. If you do choose to sponsor another child in the future, I truly pray you will be able to successfully meet them in person.

This is a HUGE concern ... if this happens when I go to Guatemala ... they will lose 3 sponsored children ... as my cousin has two also!

Sandy, I completely understand your concerns seeing as two people have commented on our help forum regarding issues with visiting their child. Please rest assured that these types of issues are unrelated and very rare. If you have any questions or concerns about your trip to meet your children, please email our Visits Team at visits@us.ci.org. I truly hope you have a wonderful, life-changing experience in Guatemala.

Tina, I am deeply sorry to hear that you did not receive any follow up communications regarding your request to meet your child. I hear your heart for our ministry and your love for sweet Sofia. I completely understand your excitement to meet her, and I would also be disappointed if I had not heard back after submitting a request to meet her. I assume that you requested an individual custom visit to meet Sofia. Is that correct? I do see a note on your account from our Visits Team on September 13th about working on a visit to the D.R. in December. However, I do not see any comments on your account past that. I am wondering if their emails could have been missed. Have you checked your spam/junk folder? As Sarah said, I highly encourage you to please contact out Custom Visits Team. You may reach them at 800-336-7542 ext. 2, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. MT, or you may send an email to visits@us.ci.org. I sincerely hope that our Visits Team will be able to address your concerns and help you finally get to meet your kiddo.

I have not personally met my sponsored child in Thailand, though it would be a dream come true. I just don’t have the funds to do that right now. However, I can testify to many compassion sponsors who have met their sponsored children in person and for whom it has been an incredible experience. I’m sure all of them would be glad to share their experiences and I would be happy to ask them and put you in contact if possible!
