Corespondent Child ID - UG092600339
Name - Maureen
My Sponsor ID - 07955592

I noticed when I went to check the weather for Bolivia that I have a new child to write to!  So exciting and I have already started her first letter.  i was wondering if I would get any additional photos and information.  How long has she been sponsored and how many siblings does she have?  Also, her birthday is coming up soon and I am wanting to make sure I am timely with her card.  I know my boy in Bolivia seems to get my letters within  2 weeks when I do them through the app, but how long does it take to get the letters and cards to Uganda (the northern region)?  She is only 3, going on 4 so I do not want to have her birthday card too early that it is confusing to her but also I don't want it to be too late.  I was also wondering if I am allowed to know certain things like, does she get gifts from her sponsor for her birthday and Christmas.  If not, am I allowed to step in and send a monetary gift to ensure that she gets a present for her special day?  I did not see where I could underneath my sponsorship for her.  I know she is possibly too young for Primary School, but under education it says 'needed, lacks funds'  I thought this was something her sponsor provided with the monthly giving.  If not, is there a way that I can send a reduced amount to ensure her school fees are paid?  Thank you for assigning me a child so quickly to write to.  I asked for any kid anywhere and somehow God made sure you heard my heart and gave me a child in Uganda, which is  exactly where I was praying my corespondent child would come from!  Thank you compassion for filling my heart with even more love!! - Malissa

Hi Maureen!  How exciting for you and what a fun way to start your New Year.  I have been involved in the correspondent sponsorship part of the program for several years now.  I have called Compassion and asked questions about each of my correspondent children and have been given the answers.  I have sent birthday money or Christmas money when I could if the $ sponsor did not.  You will get all of the same information for your correspondent as you do for your $ sponsored child....pictures and updates.  Hope this helps!

In Him,

Karen

Great to know. She looks way older than the age on the account so I’m wanting as much info as I can get. I don’t want to write a letter for a kid I think is 4, when she’s older. It’s harder to write to the smaller ones because you get so excited and want to ask all kinds of questions but you have to remind yourself they’re a toddler and I know my kids that are toddlers look st me crazy when I ask too many questions at once lol. I’m just so excited and I love children and love to write, so I’m so glad they have the corespondent program!cant wait to get info on this sweet girl. I love her already

The age appears to be updated in real time. There must be a "Birth year" in the background database. Because when my kids have a birthday, right away their age updates everywhere it is displayed. So as long as the birth year was recorded correctly, the age should be fine.  OTOH I mostly write the same letters to 4 year olds and 6 year olds.  I don't put more than 2 questions in any letter -- even to my kids as old as 12 or 13 year olds. (I've only had two older) -- with the high probability they are not going to have the letter I wrote in hand while writing the next letter (which could be as much as two months away), I don't expect questions will be remembered when there is a large number of them. If I include two, maybe one will strike a chord and be pondered upon to reply to in the next letter.

Yeah I try to keep it simple with questions, like I want to know all about you, and I can’t wait to hear al about you. Another good one that’s easy for the older ones like my 9 year old is, what are your favorite things. I’m excited to have a young one to write to and to get to hopefully watch her grow into an amazing young lady!

Hi Malissa! I'm so glad to see your excitement at receiving Maureen as a new child! She has only been in the program for a few months and received her first sponsor in November. She hasn't received any letters yet :). Maureen has three brothers and a sister. Letter processing times can vary depending on many factors so we always recommend sending birthday letters about two months early so that they do have time to get there :). If it's early, it isn't going to be a problem for her. She might be extra excited that you remembered and got it to her early! She has not received any gifts from her sponsor so far. You are absolutely allowed to send one to her yourself. You won't be able to do that yourself through your online account, but we can do it for you over the phone! Our phone number is 800-336-7676 and our office is open Monday through Friday between 7:00 AM and 5:30 PM, Mountain Time. The information you see under her schooling was taken as she was being registered. At that time, it sounds like she wasn't attending school because of a lack of funds. Compassion does help families with the schooling fees and if she is indeed old enough to attend school, Compassion will help her get in :). The sponsorship costs do help to cover that. Since she has only been in the program a short time, she doesn't have another photo other than the one you see on the app. You will be receiving a welcome packet for her with her photo within the next two weeks. Enjoy this cutie!

Oh I’m over joyed at being chosen to be her special pen pal! I’ve written my first letter and will get on her birthday card right away as it shows her turning 4 in 2 months, though she looks older than 4 in her photo. She is just precious and I’m already head over heels for her! I know we will be fast friends.

My favorite Correspondent is in Uganda!  She just turned 6 at the end of December so I'm sure it has a lot to do with her teacher -- but it is the same teacher's name helping on every letter.  I got my first letter 6 weeks after she was added to my account (looking back, this is unbelievably fast!) and have received response letters  about every 2 months since. (the longest stretch was 9-18 to 12-12. But before that was also a stretch when I did not send as many letters over the summer also)

I’m so excited to see her letters once she starts them! Kids say the darndest things and I know I get a massive chuckle out of my own as little children, so I can’t wait to hear from her.
