I did not see a thread on this yet, so decided to start one for those of us who are Nicaragua sponsors. As a longtime Compassion Advocate, I've been getting regular updates from Compassion field staff about the recent, tragic, country-wide unrest in Nicaragua (see recent US news story on this below).

I wondered if others here have heard from their kids or family, or some of our Compassion field staff, specifics that we can pray for fervently. I know that Compassion Nic headquarters and field staff are having a lot of troubles getting support to our children. I just wrote our boy, Axel, and I'm hoping it reaches him soon. I'm also reaching out to a few folks today and will update when I have something, as well as connecting with a few folks in my church community who are also sponsoring Nic children.

I just received a letter from my sponsor child and she said nothing about the conflict. I read her letter and it was all positive. I have heard nothing from Compassion so that tells me everything is okay with her.

I have not received a letter from our young teen, who attends a project in the Managua area. I have been awaiting word from him since April. The unrest certainly feeds my desire to hear from him, but I also recognize that it may make such things more difficult. And so I pray to the God Who Knows -- for protection, for peace, and for wisdom -- and not just for this one boy and his family, but especially for those in leadership.

I have 2 sponsored teens in Nicaragua. In a letter written the end of June, the one near Managua said her classes have been cancelled because of the situation her country is having. The other lives in the port city of Corinro. She said in a letter written the end of July that Nicaragua is going through a difficult time, especially in Managua, but that in Corinto everything is calm.

I have been getting emails from Compassion about the situation and I received one this morning saying my sponsored child's family lost their primary method of generating income due to the unrest.
This makes me so sad. I immediately sent a monetary gift and I hope they're able to get it to him. He  lives on the plains of Reparto Villa Austria so I'm not quite sure where that is in relation to what is going on. We have not heard from him this summer.
