We have sponsored Allyzzah (PH084400646) since June and sent seven letters.  We received only an introductory letter six months ago that said "Thank you for choosing me.  God bless you.”

I know there was a tropical storm in the Philippines, but I have not heard whether it was in Allyzzah's area.  Our sponsor number is 02622278.

I sponsored a little girl in June and have received only 2 letters from her (the first in September, the second just a week ago or so.  So this does not sound like out of the ordinary.  If you are sending regular letters, you should get letters more frequently once they begin flowing.  But it does take a bit of time for that to happen.  There can be as much of a gap as 4 months before you get the first letter! (September for a June sponsorship is the fastest it has happened for me. Sounds like yours was even faster -- back in July?) Hopefully the letters will flow every 2-3 months for you once you get the first "response" letter. (Introduction letters go out as soon as they know they are sponsored, even before they get the first correspondence from you!)

Sarah, thanks.  I know the letter flow starts out slowly.  I'm just a little spoiled.  One of my little girls in Peru has written 8 letters to my 12 in the past year.  I vowed to love these kids whether I ever got a letter or not.  But it helps to know what to pray about and it builds a meaningful two-way relationship with more communication.

Hi Steve!
I am so sorry to hear that you have been concerned about your new child, Allyzzah Dhaine! First off, I am very thankful to let you know that she was directly affected by the storm. :)

Secondly, I am so sorry that you have not yet began to receive letters from this sweet girl. You are a wonderful, invested writer and I am sure that when you guys begin to establish a relationship, she will truly enjoy writing response letters to you, as Sarah mentioned above. Regrettably, we do have to wait a full six months in order to send an inquiry on a child, from the time that we received the last letter. This means that we will not be able to send an inquiry until February 4th. Sadly, even though it is just a couple days away, our country office will not accept it even just a few days early. Therefore, I am so sorry for the inconvenience, but please let us know on or after the 4th if you still have not received a letter and we will be more than happy to send an inquiry to see why she has not yet written. Praying you will receive a letter very soon!

Thank you for the reply.  I hope and assume you meant she was NOT directly affected by the storm.  I would like to follow-up on Allyzzah's letters.  I used to minimize the importance of our letters back-and-forth, but have come to realize that they are important to most of the children.  Besides a visit, they are the only thing we have to build relationships and let the kids know their sponsors care.

I was using the date on her letter to determine the six months.  I don't think the country office would actually refuse to accept the inquiry.  I have met several of the folks in country offices.  I do understand the inquiry would not be sent before the six months.  Some time ago, with our first sponsored child, we received a letter that was about 13 months old, because we requested an inquiry.  It bothers me to think that I nearly gave up on her, but instead continued to inquire, to write, and to visit her.

Let me add that I appreciate all that you do!  I like to think that I'm not USUALLY one of the attitudes that you have to put up with.  Because seven of our nine sponsored kids speak Spanish, my wife and I refer to the Social Media group as our Four Amigas.  Your help is greatly appreciated!

Steve, I am so sorry for the confusion. Yes, Shannon did mean that Allyzzah had not been directly affected by the storm.

We actually go by the date that the letter was processed in our system rather than the date on the letter itself, but we do have to have a strict rule on waiting exactly 6 months until we are able to send an inquiry. I am going ahead and sending an inquiry to our office in the Philippines today regarding Allyzzah so that we can make sure she is doing well and writes a new letter to you :). We should receive the response from their office with the new letter within the next six to eight weeks!

We enjoy our interactions with you, Steve, and are so grateful for the love and kindness you exhibit to us and your children! Thank you!
