I wrote my first letter to our newest sponsored child and wanted to include two photos. I eventually got the first one uploaded, but when I wanted to upload the next one, I was limited to a portrait orientation, which didn't work for my landscape-oriented photo.

We need a way to select, for each photo, which orientation we need. Surely a solution to this snag can be created!

Hi Vicki :-)

That is a known issue with the new template letters. The photo feature space for photos permits 2 landscape pictures (1st and 3rd uploads) and 1 portrait pictures (2nd upload). Not having designed the templates, but looking at the space available, I do not think it is possible to fit 3 landscape or 3 portrait orientations without redesigning the letter templates, which likely is why CI limited the picture options.

Perhaps CI could adjust the space to present sponsors an option to upload using the current configuration, 2 landscape pictures only or 2 portrait pictures only? I think that change would require as major an update to the templates as allowing any combination of 3 pictures, which would mean redoing the picture space substantially on the letter templates.

Hi, Becky, and a :-) to you, too!

I wouldn't say it under oath, but I seem to remember trying to scroll down past the portrait space, in hopes of finding another option, and I didn't find one. Would the third space have appeared, only after a second--portrait oriented--photo was posted? It would seem logical that a third would not appear until it was called for.

Both my husband and I have found the photo-posting option frustrating, each time either of us has used it. When we post photos to our typepad-hosted blogs, we choose the size of the thumbnail; the software resizes the photos automatically. When I post photos to Facebook, I do the size that I want.

Actually, I would say most of our photos are landscape-oriented, so the possibility of sending any two in the same letter seems slim to none. Am I correct in this? If I am, then further work on the letter templates seems worthwhile, to the two end users in this house.

Same problem. The third space did appear after the second. It would be good if the three options were available at the beginning to choose from.

Of course, someone whose photos are usually portrait-oriented might plead for an equal number of photo spaces for their photos. So, if we're supposed to be able to send up to three photos with each letter, then, in order to satisfy everyone, Compassion's good IT folks would need to provide six photo spaces, including three of each orientation.

Yep, sounds like another serious overhaul is needed!

Hi, Shaina,

Since it's been four months, I'll just ask whether any progress has been made in solving this "little" snag. Actually, despite what I said in my last comment, six photo spaces should not be necessary, if we are simply allowed to choose Portrait or Landscape, for each photo.

But, heck; what do I know?! ;-)
