Hi there,

I became a correspondent sponsor for two children on 17 April. However I haven't received any letter from them yet though I have written to them already a couple of times. Could you please confirm how can I check that everything is fine?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Blessings,

Ilaria

Hi Ilaria!

The first letters from correspondent children can come anywhere between four and six months after they are assigned. It looks like it hasn't quite been four months yet. I'm so glad that your other correspondent child is writing like clockwork already and hope that these two catch up soon! :) If you do not receive a letter from these two newer correspondent children by the 17 October, please let us know and we will send an inquiry to make sure everything is alright.

I'm still pretty new here, so please pardon my ignorance once again...
Is the 4-6 months from correspondent children longer than it takes to receive first letters from sponsored children? If so, I'm wondering what accounts for the difference?

As others have mentioned, the process sometimes seems long. And, like others have said, that makes sense. So I'm not complaining, just curious. Understanding the process helps me choose how to approach my letters to students, and helps me wait more patiently, too :)

Hi Debi! All great questions and comments! Thank you for sharing them with us! To clarify, as you may be aware, it takes 2-3 months for letters to be delivered. Sponsored and correspondent child first letters are delivered in about 2-4 months of when the relationship started. We send inquires for lack of correspondence from financially sponsored children at 4 months. Then we send inquiries for correspondent children or established relationships (any child who has sent a letter previously to that sponsor) at 6 months. We noticed about a year and a half ago that there was an issue with our systems. These systems notify a student center that a child needs to send a letter (among other things). We were able to fix the issue for financial sponsorships with duct tape. Regrettably, we are not able to fix the problem for correspondent relationships right now. However, we are aware that our systems are dated and the time that it takes for letters to go back and forth is quite long. This is why we are currently in the middle of a humongous system overhaul. You will see letters being delivered much much faster in the next year or so. :)

Thanks, Susan! I knew there would be a reason :)

It's quite a process of delivery, translation, and more delivery. Computers make things easier in many ways -- and sometimes require duct-tape-type fixing, too. I'm glad y'all could meet the most immediate need in the meantime, and I'm looking forward to the end product (which, of course, is never fully finished!) of the humongous system overhaul.

As always, I am grateful for your ministry to the children and their families, and for the ways you help us to minister more effectively too.

Hi Susan,

Thanks for clarifying. The speed at which Jared has been writing to me made me think it would be the same with the other two boys. ;-)

Also, if you have any more children waiting for a correspondent sponsor I'd be happy to step in for a couple of them. Being part of a child's life is such an honour and privilege! :-)

With blessings,

Ilaria

Chelsie, I know that we've been talking about the letter you still have not received from Hope in Kenya. I sincerely apologize that you have not received this letter and appreciate your patience in waiting for it to come in the mail. Please email us at socialmedia@compassion.com and we may be able to look into this situation further.

Hi!
Today I had a wonderful surprise when I checked my mailbox: Frank's first letter was there! I was so excited that I read it several times. My joy grew all the more when, attached to the letter, I found also a new picture of Frank with the most beautiful smile you can imagine.
Though it wasn't easy, it was definitely worth the wait :)
At this point I'm expecting Johnatan's letter to be here soon too.
Thanks again for your help and support!!
