How soon is the child notified that they have been sponsored?

I am a new sponsor, just signed up to sponsor Mishel on Friday. How long does it take for the child and her family to be notified that she has been sponsored. I also saw the video of the girl being notified that she was sponsored and in the video they gave her the first letter from her sponsor, we mailed Mishel a letter today with some other stickers and goodies, will she receive this when she is told that we have sponsored her, or how does all that work? I know it takes 2-3 months to get to her so I wasn't sure how this worked.

I think notification time can vary slightly from project to project. A child attending a project every day may be notified sooner than a project where the children only come once a week.

We started sponsoring a little girl in mid-December. A little less than a month later I received an email that she had been notified she has a sponsor and now knew my name. Her introduction letter arrived about 2 weeks ago. She attends her project once a week. I think Compassion strives to notify the children within a month that they have been sponsored.

I signed up to sponsor a little guy in Rwanda and within a month I got an email saying that he knew my name (I was SO excited!). About 2 weeks later I got my first letter from him. I signed up a week after him to sponsor a girl in Ghana but I still haven't gotten anything from Compassion saying that she knows she has a sponsor, so it must vary from country to country.

Great question, Jennifer! Michel will know about your sponsorship within one month. She will know you're her sponsor before your letter reaches her because we want to share this exciting news as soon as possible! :) I like this because now she will be anxiously anticipating your first letter and it will be such a sweet surprise when she receives it!

My first letters I wrote online and received both replies  (from Sri-Lanka and Tanzania) exactly in one month.

Hi,

My question is pretty  much the same. Its been a month since I started sponsoring and was wondering if my girl and her family were told they have a sponsor. I already sent her 5 letters: one online and 4 were mailed, and a family gift for Easter, don't know what is the status of those either. I got a booklet from Cmpassion with the general info about my girl but when I called to see if there is a letter my way - was told there is still nothing. I also did not get any emails from Compassion.

Thanks in advance for clarification. This is my first child and in future I am planning to sponsor more kids so once I am familiar with the process these questions are not going to be asked. :)

Thanks Ryna! Heartwarming to know you've written so many times to your girl in one month, and you're thinking of sponsoring more in the future!

Hi Ryna! Welcome to Compassion! Thank you so much for your caring heart in sending so many letters to your sponsored child already! That's wonderful! Regrettably, I could not locate your account from your name and email address. Please post your child's ID number here or call 800-336-7676 and we would be happy to make sure everything was setup alright. Please keep in mind that it typically takes anywhere between two to four months to receive the first letter from your child so it is still quite early. I am sure that you will begin receiving letters more regularly in the next few months.

Thank you Susan and everyone!
I think my account is linked to a different email address then my FB, I am sure it was a reason you couldn't find me. My girl's number is BR-570-0082. Thank you again!

Ryna, it looks like everything was setup just fine for your sponsorship. I don't see any letters on their way quite yet, but that is fairly normal. Since you started in early February, you should be receiving that first letter from Saionara within the next three months.

It takes 2-3 months for all letters and gifts to be delivered. They do try to notify the child and family that they have a sponsor within a month and the child will write their first letter that day. I'm new too but I've been reading this forum for over a week for many hours a day, lol.

Actually, when the child's introduction letter is written varies by project. Some letters are written at the time of registration and kept on file. This means the information may be a bit outdated (sibling may have been born, etc) but it is sent to the sponsor quickly. Other projects wait and have the child write once they have been sponsored. This can mean it takes a little longer to get the introduction letter. But for financial sponsorships, you should have an introduction letter within four months of becoming a sponsor.

I see here that it has been mentioned about receiving an email that your sponsored child was notified of being sponsored and who their sponsor is. I've been sponsoring for almost 2 years and never received this type of email is that something particular to other than Compassion U.S. Or have I just been left out of this loop. I also have never received letters on a "regular" cycle as in every 2-3 months though I write at least once a month myself.

Hi Donald! I'm so sorry if you haven't been receiving our emails :(. Please rest assured that despite not receiving these, your children do know that you're their sponsor and they're given this exciting news within the first month. It's common however, for our emails to go to a sponsor's junk mail or spam folder. Have you been receiving other emails from us in the past? I see that we have two email addresses on file for you. I would encourage you to log in to your My Account and double check to make sure we have your current email. You might also check your email preferences to make sure you're still opted in to receive child and account information. You can do this from the main page when you log in and by clicking 'Email and Text Preferences' on the right hand side.

It looks like you just began supporting two more children with us. First off, thank you! We are so grateful for you and it's evident that you love these kiddos with how often you write to them. I would encourage you to add Compassion to your address list if you haven't already so that you can ensure you receive emails from us and keep an eye out for an email regarding Emily and Ronny. We try to get this email out within the first month for our sponsors but it you should receive it no later than three months into sponsoring them.

Also, because of the time it takes for letters to be delivered back and forth to your children (2-3 months), it can take some time for them to catch up to the letters you have sent to them and get into the 'groove' of responding as they wait for the first several letters you sent. Normally, we encourage sponsors to give about two years to see a consistent flow of letters going back and forth. After reviewing your account however, our system shows that each of your children have been sending you letters almost every 2-3 months. For example, I see that Viola has sent you six letters so far since you began sponsoring her in April of 2014. In 2014, we show letters from May, June, September, and October. And in 2015, we show a letter in January and the most recent we just received yesterday in our Colorado office. You can expect to see this most recent letter very soon :). This is very exciting as I wrote to my boy in Mexico every month and during the first year of sponsoring him, I only received three but now he writes more often as we continued to build our relationship. I pray that you have received all of them so far and want to encourage you to keep writing as they love to hear from you! If there comes a time when you have not heard from one of your children for six months, please let us know and we can send an inquiry to our country office to ensure your child is doing alright and request a letter be sent to you.
