My packet on my sponsored child said he had 5 siblings (6 children in his family) but in his first letter he only mentioned 3 of his siblings . And only the 4 children were pictured with his parents in the family photo. Was there a misprint or did something happen to his other siblings? I want to make sure that I do not mention anything or say anything insensitive if something has happened. And that way I can pray for them whatever the circumstances.

Hi Yahira! According to the information I have, Moumouni does have five siblings. The children do not always mention every single sibling they have in the letters, especially if the letter template doesn't have enough room for all of their names to fit. Moumouni may even be listing the names of his siblings that he is closest to. My little man in Burkina Faso has seven siblings and he lists about two or three of their names to his letters when he writes me. It was a little confusing at first, but now I'm starting to understand what he is doing. As for the picture, the family pictures are not always taken with every single member of the family in them. Some of the children may have been doing other things and were not available when the photo was taken. We try to get as much of the family in the picture as possible, but sometimes the older kids are at school or jobs and simply cannot be available for the photo.

I could never figure out the sibling situation with my two in BF, as it seemed to be a moving target as you've observed.  When I met them it became a little more clear as one lives with cousins, and the other family has more than one wife...  I'm still not clear on who's who, but at least now I understand why I'm confused!  :)
