Hello!
First of all I LOVE COMPASSION!!! My husband and I are so excited to get the oppurtunity to sponsor two children.
I was wondering since Jahir (EC4980034) is too young for school how is our sponsorship directly helping him? I saw online that some children get taken to their children's center a few times a week for food and such. Is that what is happening with him? What's happening on a week to week basis?
I was also curious about the same for our sponsor daughter, Koseyian (KE4650249) in Kenya. She is in school, so how is our sponsorship directly helping her through compassion. I understand food, medical, etc but I was wondering the specifics.
Thank you so much for your time and effort!
Jacqueline

Hi Jacqueline! Welcome to Compassion! We're so excited that you've chosen these two kids to encourage, to love, and to support!

For the younger children, we provide supplementary education to help prepare them for school. The 3-5 year olds at Jahir's center meet for 8 hours a week. He receives the benefits of the program when he attends. This means that he will receive the school preparation that I mentioned, health and hygiene education, medical checkups and treatment, a bible and bible teaching, etc. at the center. Also, each child receives lunch everyday that they are at the center. The center staff also provide counseling and parenting classes for Jahir's mom.

Koseyian meets with her age group (3-5 year olds) 8 hours every Saturday. Your sponsorship provides Koseyian with a bible and bible teaching, tutoring, medical checkups and treatment, and school tuition. The center staff also provide health education for her mother and father. Each child receives a snack and a lunch during every Saturday program.

Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you so much for responding. we are so excited we are helping our children in this way!
We did have 2 more questions
1) we know that both of our sponsor children have sibling(s). is it okay to send stickers/small puzzles to them too? I feel bad that only one child would receive stickers especially if another child wanted some too.
2) is it possible to sponsor jahirs sister? I understand in africa most families can only have one child sponsored due to the high need..so I understand it is unlikely we would be able to do this for Koseyian's siblings

Hello again!

  1. That's so thoughtful of you! Yes, you are welcome to send extra stickers or paper items to the siblings of your sponsored child as well. Feel free to note this in your letter so that they know your intention. :)
  2. Jahir's sister is not registered in Compassion's program. You are right that most places in Africa have a limit of only one child per family to help as many needy families as possible.

Sure! We so appreciate your willingness to write to and encourage another child in need! I just added you to the waiting list. As soon as a child becomes available for the letter writing program, we will send you their packet of information so that you can start writing.
