Hi! Today I have try to write a letter online to sponsored child but an error message shows up and I cannot write a letter online, it says try again later. Has been like this since yesterday. Also, can I pay the commitment funds many months ahead first? I will like to know if my sponsored child knows how to write or speak English?

Hi Hope Dove!  Just so you know, Compassion just changed the letter writing system on monday, and there have been a few errors popping up with that change.  Don't worry, they are working on getting it fixed, so hang in there! ;)  I received that same error message, and was able to send my letter later the same day, though some others have not been as lucky.
You can pay your commitment as far in advance as you like.  I used to pay mine a year at a time.
As far as as whether your child can speak and write in English, what country is your child from?  The ladies here might be able to let you know if English is a common language in that country.  Otherwise, you'll probably have to wait for your first letter before you'll know if they write in English or not.  You could also asked them when you write them if they know English. :)

She is from Uganda. I do read somewhere that the official language is English there, however the common language her report shows is two languages and none of both is English. Not sure if she will be taught English in school? Also, she is six only, average in kindergarten. Do not attend school but goes bible study.

Hope, my guess is that eventually the letters you get will be in English. When I sponsored in Uganda, at first the girl's letters were not in English, but around the time she turned 10 she switched to writing in English.

Hi Hope! I am so glad Jamie and Kristen were here to help you with your questions :). Elizabeth will most likely write in English, but she may write in a different language as well. We won't know for sure until you receive that first letter from her. Students are taught English in school in Uganda. She will also probably have a tutor helping her write the letters until she is a little older.

You can certainly send donations for more than one month! If you'd like to do so online, log into your account here. Once you are logged in, click on "Make A Payment." You'll be able to adjust the amount you'd like to pay ahead from that page. Just to give you quick numbers: one month is $38, three months is $114, six months is $228, and a full year is $456.

Like Jamie mentioned, we are seeing a lot of issues with the new online letter tool. They are being worked on as we speak, but I don't have an estimation for when they will be fixed. I'm happy to update you when they are though! Thank you so much for taking the initiative to write to Elizabeth so quickly! Once everything is working again, she will be so encouraged to read your letter :)!
