Is Compassion ready to open up (again) child sponsoring in other countries than the ones they are currently working?

We're always looking for opportunities to expand and minister in new countries. It takes a lot of prayer and work to do this. The process of securing government permissions and developing church partnerships can take many years. Because our work is in partnership with the local church, we can only locate in developing countries where the Evangelical churches have building facilities and enjoy the freedom to minister in their communities. The most recent country we expanded to was Sri Lanka in 2010.

Thank you. Compassion has been active in the DR Congo until in 1996 the war in the country, then Zaire, started. Compassion mainly worked with the CECA 20 Evangelical Church in Congo. This church denomination is still active and growing and has building facilities from the north of the country (Assa) until the south (Goma). The church still has freedom to minister, although in he north the population is suffering because of the presence of the LRA of Joseph Kony. Thus my question: is it possible to return to Congo and help build up the country by taking care of those children of whom parents or care takers cannot pay school fees???

At this point, we don't have any plans to expand to Congo. If you would like to formally suggest that we expand our programs to the Congo (or any other country), please write a letter to and mail it to the following address:

Sponsor Donor Relations
Compassion International
Colorado Springs, CO 80997

Our vision truly is to serve as many children as possible. Although we currently have over one million children and students in our program, we realize that there are millions more that need our help.

Hi Shaina. Will mention this to our CECA church president at our central office. Certainly your reply will be followed up.

I know that Compassion has a CDP in Sri Lanka. Have they thought of expanding and having a CSP there too?

Actually, we have CSP in Sri Lanka, but not CDSP yet. Once the children in our CSP grow to the age of CDSP, we will begin opening that program in Sri Lanka.

I am on Etsy! :) It's a lot of fun. Are you enjoying having a shop?

Oh, I get confused with all the abbreviations! I cannot wait to see all the sweet kids from Sri Lanka in a few years!

Yes, I am enjoying my shop! I just wanted to make sure you were on Etsy because I got a convo from you, and I wanted to make sure it was you! I love your shop and the idea behind it as well :)

Compassion should expand and help children in South Africa. I'd love to sponsor a child from South Africa. Right now I am sponsoring a child from Tanzania.

Thanks for your idea, Jodie! Unfortunately, we do not have any plans to expand in to South Africa at this time.

I see Compassion involved in many countries. I would like to find out if Compassion is involved in Jamaica. If not, how do we go about getting Compassion involved in the poverty that exists there, setting up Jamaica as a sponsored country. Willing to be hands and feet.
