Philippines Call Center

I just have to give huge kudos to Compassion.

This morning I called Compassion to ask if there were any updates from the Philippines since I sponsor several children there. The young man who answered the phone was very pleasant and he spoke beautiful English. Without my having to ask, he asked me if I knew that Compassion opened a Call Center in the Philippines that was staffed by former sponsored children. I didn't know this. But, I was actually speaking to someone IN the Philippines AND he was a former sponsored child.

I can't even begin to express how much this meant to me. Instead of just sending jobs out to random companies, Compassion made a call center in the Philippines to give jobs to former sponsored children who really need them. This helps me have so much more faith in the organization (which I love already). I just have to say, Well Done Compassion!

Thank you so much. That made my week.

Blessings!

Will we be updated on how the children we are sponsoring are, due to the Typhoon? We also sponsor a child from the Philippines and are very worried. How do we know if they are ok? How do we reach the call center?

This is a great conversation that's separate from the main topic, so I created a new topic to continue the discussion. Please reference the new topic here: Was my child affected by the typhoon in the Philippines?

Hi Vicki! You don't do anything special to reach the call center. I just called the regular Compassion number and got routed there. My understanding is that it's just to help with call volume, so you don't do anything different to get there (it's just luck of the draw I think). But yes, Compassion will notify you if your child was affected. Right now, I was told that no reports have come in. However, the affected areas are in the south so if your child is in the north they should be fine. But, you can always call Compassion to find out :)

I found the call center to be a different experience. I had no way of knowing these were former sponsored children, or were Christian at all. There was certainly no sense of fellowship like there used to be when I called in the past. And they couldn't answer any questions I had. Perhaps better training? Still, a way out of the cycle of poverty is the goal of the program and providing jobs through the program is great.

Annie, thank you so much for your feedback! I am so sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations. Please rest assured that we will take this into consideration and we are working to provide better training to all of our representatives.
