I was reading some of these post and I see that paying about $60 gives you a photo of your sponser child. Shouldn't something like that be automatic? I haven't read anything else like that on the site unless I overlooked it. Is there anything else that I have to pay extra for that doesn't come with my donation?

Meli, thank you for blessings your child with your sponsorship. We get updated pics of our sponsored kiddos every 18-26 months. With the number of children enrolled in each Compassion project it would take a lot of time to do individual photos any more often or with all gifts that are given. This would take time away from project activities and instruction. I hope this explanation helps. We have been sponsoring for several years and we have been so blessed by our kiddos. God bless!

Hello Meli, Heather's explanation of photos is exactly right. As she said, you will indeed automatically get updates of your child's photos. The photos that are provided when you send a gift of $60 or more are just extra. I am so sorry that this was not clear. There is a really great blog article here that explains gift giving in more detail. Please let us know if you have any other questions!

Yes the $60 isn't for a photo update :) It's extra money you send to your child, which he or she gets to use to buy things for himself and family.  You get a photo of the kid with those items i the amount is $60 or more, but you get update photos without paying.  (And you may get a photo sending smaller gifts too but it won't be required for them to send the photo)  For example, I sent my girl some money and she bought a fruit stand to generate more income and I got this photo: tand
