It used to be that I would receive a photo after a birthday, Christmas or family gift donation showing what the child used the money for. It has been over a year since I received such a picture despite 2-3 monetary donations for holidays during that time. Is this still occurring or has it been cancelled? My children are anxious to see more photos of their children.

Hi Kimberly! We changed our correspondence guidelines a few years ago. With the changes, we made a global rule that photos would always be sent for gifts of $60 or more. Prior to this change, only centers that had the ability would send photos for all gifts. This was an effort to standardize things a little. I'm so sorry for the inconvenience and disappointment that we caused as a result.

So since I am unable to make a gift
Of more than $60, I will get no acknowledgement for any gifts I send??! I am most disappointed and embarrassed that my small
gifts though there may be a number of them are unworthy of gratitude. I am dismayed. 3377518

I hope my answer can alleviate some of your dismay and confusion as you will get acknowledgement in the next letter the child sends, which has always been the case for sponsor gifts of any amount. Your gifts are worthy of gratitude with the child thanking you and telling you what was purchased in the next letter. Kids in poverty are often told that they are worthless, and your financial support plus any letters and the gifts you send tell kids that they matter to us.

The only thing that changed was if the sponsor receives a photo for a gift sent. The center I sponsor a child at had never sent photos for gifts regardless of the dollar amount, and recently, they now send photos for gifts over $60.

Hi Belle! I'm so sorry for the confusion! You will receive a thank you letter for all extra gifts that you send. I was explaining that we send photos with the thank you letter when the gift is over $60.

I made a gift of $65 for my sponsored child's birthday last October 2013. I have received about 2-3 letters since then but no pictures. Should I wait a little longer or contact customer service?

Hi Justine! If it has been more than six months since the gift was sent, we can check into it and make sure you receive the picture. Since you sent the gift October 28, please let us know if you do not receive the thank you letter and photo by April 28. You can post here about it, call 800-336-7676, or email ciinfo@us.ci.org
