So, in my choosing of a 2nd sponsored child. I saw that the project she is in is for children who are not yet in school, and I am assuming it is oriented towards the very young. My question is this: when the child reaches school age, do they move to a different project? What is the likelihood of their leaving the program because their next project may be further away?

Also, it is my understanding that school must be paid for in Burkina Faso for school aged children. Are the schools private? Does my sponsorship cover this tuition? Is there any way to help pay specifically for their schooling if not?

Hi Dana! Can you tell me the child ID for this new girl you chose to sponsor? I don't yet see her on an account for you and it would be helpful to look up her individual and center information to confirm my initial thoughts. Most likely, this girl either attends a center that is brand new and has enrolled children who were not previously attending school or all of the children who are available for sponsorship are of an age where they just weren't old enough to attend school when they were enrolled into our program. Compassion does enroll children in school once they are part of our program as long as they are old enough to attend. Your sponsorship donations do help cover the fees for the children's schooling, but not all of the schools will be private schools. Truthfully, it depends on what schooling is available in the child's community. The children will remain in this specific project; they are not transferred over to a new project after they begin school.

I haven't committed to this child yet. I had her in my cart too but I wanted to find out how this would work because I would like to possibly keep the child long-term, so that she grows up pretty much from the beginning with us in her life in this way. It seems if I go away from my cart at any given time, it empties it. Which is fine. Anyway, I read at some point in one of the descriptions that the child project she was located in was specifically only for children who are not yet in school, which is what prompted my question about moving them to a different project with school-age children. But if it's new, that would make sense.

Also, I went ahead with the sponsorship. How long does it take for her to show up sp I can write? Elodie showed up immediately! The new child's birthday is next month and I want to make sure she receives a card and gift.

Thank you so much for that added information, Dana! Yes, our partnership with this church is only three years old right now, which completely explains why none of the children have been registered in school yet. When the church started partnership with us, they must have enrolled children at very young ages so that we would be able to help them for the longest amount of time possible. As soon as kids are ready to go to school, they will absolutely be enrolled :). That should happen within the next year or so! I'm so glad you decided to sponsor the girl after all! It can take time for sponsorship to be completed online. Hang in there for a few days and let me know if she still doesn't show up by the end of the week. I can see that it is being worked on today for you.
