My daughter, Sarah, sponsors a child in Kenya. We sent a monetary gift back in June and received a letter and a picture telling us what the money was used for. Her name is Dona and the recent picture shows her wearing the same dress that she wore in the first picture we got last year. She also looks much thinner to me and I'm a little worried. I hope I'm making sense. I was just wondering if the monetary gifts we send are sometimes used to purchase clothing. I sent another gift this evening. Thanks for your help.

Hi Kelli! First of all, you're an awesome mom! :) Thank you so much for teaching your daughter about helping others in need and for your care and concern for her sponsored child. Please rest assured that all the kids in Compassion's program receive nutritious meals at the centers and if your child ever has any medical needs then the center staff will give attention to those to make sure that she stays healthy. When you send a monetary gift to your child, then the Compassion staff will meet with the family and help them decide how to best use the funds in a wise way. They are able to use the funds to meet whatever their most pressing needs are, but the gifts are certainly used to purchase clothing sometimes. It might be that the girl that your daughter sponsors just has one fancy dress to wear for special occasions, like taking pictures for her sponsor. :) Thank you for sending your sponsored child a financial gift, it will be such a blessing to her and her family!

Hi Kelli! You ARE an incredible mom! Adam actually covered everything I would have said :). Dona is quite a little kiddo in the photo we have of her. It's possible she is going through a bit of a growth spurt and is getting a little taller, which could make her look thinner too. Like Adam mentioned, she does receive a snack and lunch when she is at the program. To be more specific, a typical
snack consists of a cup of porridge, or cup of tea, slice of bread and fruit,
and in some cases an egg. Lunch consists of rice or ugali, beef stew,
bean stew or legumes, and green leafy vegetables such as kale or cabbage. Dona's tutors and project director know her very well. If they see anything that causes concern for her health, they will absolutely make sure that she receives any medical or nutritional support needed. I know Dona and her family are so blessed to have you and Sarah in their lives. Thank you for sending her monetary gifts that will encourage her and help provide for a need she does have.
