My sponsor child age 17 wrote me a letter and told me he has a girlfriend what is your suggestion I should write him back and encouragement and tell him and talk to him?

Cheyanne, sponsorship is a mentoring relationship. If you were mentoring a 17 year old at-risk youth, what would you say to him about having a girlfriend or about having a relationship? You might even consider sharing something of your experience as a 17 year old and whether or not you chose to be in a relationship at that time. I would encourage you to leave the topic of sex, abstinence, etc. to his parents and the local Compassion staff. However, I think it would be appropriate to encourage him to be kind to this girlfriend but also to make sure he is focusing on his studies if you would like. My overall recommendation, though, is that you go with the Holy Spirit leading. If you feel like you shouldn't send something in a letter, then perhaps it is better to not. You don't have to address this comment in your reply letter and could discuss other things instead if you don't feel comfortable with it.
