I am wanting to send my child a fishing pole. It is possible to send money for that and then have one of the volunteers in Haiti deliver it? Also, I am wanting to know if my sponsor's brother is in the compassion program? Or if we would be able to sponsor him, as well? Thank you so much.

You can certainly send a monetary gift and suggest that it be used to purchase a fishing pole. Ultimately though the child (along with project workers and parents) may choose to spend the money in a different way if they have more pressing needs.

I see. Thank you. Is there a way to look in the database and see if I can adopt my child's brother, as well?

Rebecca, you can call Compassion at 800-336-7676 and see if his brother is registered in the program but if he is and already has a sponsor you won't be able to sponsor him.  Have your sponsor donor number handy to enter on your phone's keypad.  I do know of sponsors that send extra stuff for the sibling(s).  You have to put your child's name and number on it and then put a message that it is for the sibling.  You can also send family gifts to help the brother with his school expenses.  The family gifts I used to send to one of my girls in Kenya that completed the program was always used by the mom to help her other children with their school fees and uniforms.   One of my children is in Haiti and his parents used the family gifts to start a family business to better support their children.

Hi Rebecca, thank you so much for wanting to bless your child with a fishing pole! Like Kristen said, you are welcome to give a monetary gift to your child and comment that you would like it to be used for a pole. The staff will help your child make the best decision based on his most pressing needs at this time. You will receive a thank you letter from your child as well, letting you know how your gift was used!

That is so kind of you to want to sponsor his brother as well! Our records indicate that Christian has one brother and one sister but neither of his siblings are in Compassion's program and so they are not available to be sponsored. The decision about how many children that can be sponsored per family is made by
the local project leadership. The staff knows the needs of your child's community better than we do and so they make the decision on if it is better for one or multiple children in the family to be sponsored. Just like Denise said however, his siblings will benefit indirectly from your support for Christian! :)
