My wife came across an envelope of old cards (about 2.5" x 3.25") with Compassion, Inc. on them. The corporate address is 7774 Irving Park Road, Chicago, IL 60634. They look like they are child sponsorship cards from the late 60's or early 70's. They have a child's picture on the front and a short story about the child on the back. Child sponsorship was only $12/month back then. Do these sound like they were what Compassion International used back then?

Well I wasn't born back then, but they do sound like they are old child packets. (I am sure an official rep will give an answer on Monday.) I know that until 1980, Compassion was based out of Chicago. Then they moved their GMC to Colorado Springs in 1980. Sounds like you did find some old sponsorship packets - cool! If you'd like to read more about Compassion's history, you can do so here - www.compassion.com/history.htm

Now that is a flash from the past! Compassion International started in Chicago in 1952. Irving Park Road was our address in Chicago so it sounds like you found some old child sponsorship cards! We'd love to keep those cards in our showcase since we're always trying to keep track of where we came from. :) If you're willing to send them to us, our (new) address is:

Susan, thank you for the response. It looks like there are two different groups with 12 cards in each. One group appears to be from the late 60's and the other from the early 70's. I will talk to my wife about sending them to you. They were in her parents house and they never threw anything away. We have been Compassion sponsors for 6 years and didn't know her parents were involved with Compassion. My wife's mother passed away in February and we have been cleaning their house getting it ready to sell. So, my wife may not be ready to part with them just yet. If you want to see what they look like, send me your email address and I will scan them.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. :( While we'd love to have a copy of these historical sponsorship forms, we understand if your wife would like to keep them around for a while. You could send scanned copies to ciinfo@us.ci.org and make sure to designate the email "Attention: Susan."

Douglas, I just received the cards. We plan to place them on display at our headquarters here in Colorado Springs. We will be sure to note in the display who provided them for us, as you had requested. May God bless you and your family!
