I would love to go on the Colombia trip in Feb, 2014. My problem is getting that much money by October. Are there any scholarships or loans available? I am starting my prayers now. I haven't been good on communicating with my sponsored child and hope to start now. I also have some mobility issues. I have a cane for less strenuous walking and a walker for longer foot trips. It is mostly pain, weakness, and balance issues. Do you think I could still do this? Your info says we will have one day dedicated to our sponsored child. Is that the only time we will see them? Thanks for your help!

Well, Rita, I don't have any info about the trips. We'll have to wait for a rep to tell us! However, I did want to say a couple things.

First of all, your letters are soo important to your sponsored child! I had the amazing opportunity to meet a formerly sponsored child, and I would like to share a little of what her experience was. After she was registered in the project, she got a sponsor. Maria loved her sponsors and prayed for them lots. But every mail day, there was no letter from them. This made her very sad, because she wanted to get to know those who were helping her. After a bit, they stopped sponsoring her. She was sad, and she prayed to God. She asked Him to give her just one thing- a sponsor who would write to her. Then she did get a sponsor who wrote her some! Sadly, this sponsor also had to stop sponsoring her. Maria asked God again to provide a sponsor who would write her. She was heartbroken. Then she got a sponsor, and they wrote her. They wrote her often and sponsored her until she graduated! They even went to visit her in Peru! This made Maria soo happy. She now has a binder that she showed me with every letter her sponsors sent her. She is so proud of her letters! I wish you could have seen her and met her, but I hope that perhaps I still was able to inspire you a little. Even if it is short, write just a note to your sponsored child. They will be sooo happy. Here is a post I came across just the other day. Okta was a sponsored child too, and this is part of his story- Oh and if you ever need writing ideas, just hop on over to or visit my blog

Secondly, keep praying! God will make a way :) He works miracles! I soo want to go on a missions trip and/or meet my sponsored kiddos. Everyone that I have told who has gone on a trip like that told me that they never thought they would be able to go. And they also told me to keep praying. God hears us and knows the desires of our hearts. He is also the One who will grow the seeds He planted in our hearts until they bear fruit! and I really do hope that you will have the life-changing experience of meeting your sweetie is Columbia!! :)

Many blessings

Hi Rita! While we don't offer any scholarships for trips, you are welcome to ask for help from your family and friends. You will get to spend one day with your sponsored child. The rest of the time will be spent visiting Compassion programs and seeing how we work. If you need specific information for the trip, email our tours team at
