Hi Compassion,

This morning I checked my e-mail and saw that I have a new letter. I was very excited as I have not received any letters from my sponsored kids yet and they were only sponsored in August. However, when I opened the letter, I found that it was actually from a child in Nicaragua, Yahaira, that I haven't sponsored in easily over a year. I have only recently come back to sponsoring with Compassion (in August) and I hadn't had any sponsored kids on my account for quite some time. This young lady is not on my account.

The letter is dated 9/3/16 (which I actually take to be March 9, 2016 since she is speaking about her plans for Holy Week this year). Are they just sending me old letters that were still stuck in the system? I would hope that by now Yahaira has found another sponsor.

Thanks for any help!

Emily

Hi Emily!

I sincerely apologize for the confusion in regards to this letter! Yes, in most countries, the date is listed first and the month second, meaning that this letter was written in March. You technically were sponsoring her until the end of March 2016, although we had not heard from you in six months at that point. This is why she wrote the letter to you and it was routed to you.

You may also be aware that we updated our letter processing systems in early April of this last year. We have encountered more issues with the new system than we anticipated and this has led to a backup of letters. Some letters are traveling in a weeks time and others are taking many months to be delivered. Because she wrote this letter to you, we felt you were still entitled to this letter. Again, I am so sorry for the confusion this letter has caused. And, yes, she is thankfully sponsored by someone else now.

I understand, thank you. I had thought I had cancelled her sponsorship myself back in 2015 (or at least, I had intended to do so) but obviously not. I did move during that time period so it is possible I was not receiving any of the mail that Compassion was sending related to the sponsorship.

At any rate, I appreciate Compassion passing on the letter and I am glad to hear that she is sponsored. :)

Thank you!
