I began sponsoring a child 5 months ago. I have faithfully written every month. Ever two weeks I am mailed the same picture on a magnet, but I have received no correspondence from my child. On the app, 4 weeksago it stated my initial letters were still being translated. Now it says nothing. I received several letters asking for more money for birthday and now holiday gifts. Yet no true communication. This greatly concerns me.

Rachel, first thank you for blessings your child with your letters and sponsorship. I am a sponsor too, but may be able to shed so light on the situation. The Compassion employees that monitor this forum will give you the official answer later.

First off, thank you for faithfully writing your child. Ordinarily, your first letter should arrive within the first 4 months of sponsorship. Did you sponsor online or at an event? That will impact your actual date you began sponsorship. However, the biggest reason you have not received your letter yet is because of a backlog of letters at the country offices right now. The new letter system Compassion implemented back in April had more issues than expected so they are now back to manually translating each letter. This delay includes English speaking countries because all letters go through a translation and check process. Compassion has been diligently working on solving the issues, but as you can imagine with an organization as big as Compassion it will take a bit to get the program fixed in all the different country offices. This is also why your letter was shown in translation then "disappeared". The letter status bar (while an awesome feature) still has some bugs to work out. The fine people whom monitor this forum will look into your situation personally and see if you have a letter on the way. If for some reason youbdo not, they will send an inquiry for you to check on your kiddo and request a letter. I know waiting is hard (my family sponsors several kiddos and corresponds with dozens more so we understand), but I feel certain you will soon get your first letter from your child. Hope this helps! God bless and don't give up, keep writing!

Hi Rachael. I am another sponsor and I'm sorry that you're feeling discouraged because you haven't received a letter, I know how you're feeling, but I can assure you that the child sponsorship program is a real ministry. Compassion is a wonderful organization and the kids are real and it's such a blessing to be able to develop a relationship with them over time and be a part of their lives. It really is. Those mailings go out to all sponsors around birthdays and Christmas, but from my experience as a sponsor Compassion really does put much more of an emphasis on prayer and relationships over just sending money. Thank you so much for being a sponsor and I hope I could be an encouragement for you and I hope you will keep writing, like Heather said! Have a great day!

Rach Ael,

I am so sorry for the delay in letters from your child and that this lack of letters has caused you to doubt the integrity of Compassion. Regrettably, there are scam organizations out there and they have made it very difficult for organizations who are legitimately doing good work. For this reason, I encourage donors of any organization to do their research. Yes, please do Google us and read reviews of what people are saying about Compassion International. Look at what watchdog organizations, like Charity Navigators, say about Compassion. Go look at our financial records which are posted publicly on our website. Read the research that was done by a third-party researcher about the effectiveness of our program. If you can, travel to see what we do firsthand and meet your child. Please do research us and prayerfully consider whether this is the organization you are called to give to.

You should receive the first letter within the first four months of sponsorship. According to our records, you started sponsoring, Jaime July 22. I can see in our system that Jaime has already written the first letter to you and it is at the country office in Ecuador right now. She is currently working on her second letter to you. Regrettably, as others have mentioned, there has been a slow down of letters at the country offices due to our new letter processing and translation system. I trust you will receive both of these letters very soon. That said, I will be watching for these letters to come through by November 22 and will send an inquiry if need be to retrieve them for you. All of your letters to your child have been processed and delivered.

When we send notifications for Christmas and birthday gifts, we do so to let supporters know about additional giving opportunities if they are interested. However, we in no way wish to overwhelm or frustrate you with these mailings. Please let me know if you would like me to take you off of our mailing list for extra appeals like this.

Rach Ael, I just wanted to let you know that regrettably I didn't see any letters from Jaime this morning. I have sent an inquiry to request a letter from him as soon as possible.

Rach Ael, it looks like we sent you a letter from Jaime last month so I am closing this case. Please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.
