Hello Compassion and Sponsors,

I've been sponsoring two boys for a while now and is in consideration of sponsoring another child, I searched through and found a child I might be interested to sponsor. He is from Honduras.

Looking through forums and reviews, my impression is that Compassion Centres in Honduras are not very responsive. Like I see posts such as sponsors saying that they don't receive letters for a long time, child's information and photos are not updated, addition gifts are not addressed, etc.

These kind of put me off because while I believe Compassion will make sure my money actually helps the child, it make me feel reassure to know that they actually receive something (say if I send a gift), not to mention that it is a joyful moment to receive their letters :)

Can staffs and other sponsors who have children in Honduras give me some advice? Thanks!!

Hi Adri!

First, let me just say thank you so much for loving and supporting the two boys you currently sponsor! We are so blessed by your kind heart and partnership in ministry to these two kiddos!

Second, you may have heard that we have had some issues with our new letter processing system. Some countries have seen slightly more issues than other countries in the transition, but if you are talking about a long term sponsorship (longer than the next year) these issues will get worked through in the coming months causing letters, updates, and photos to arrive faster than ever before.

I understand where you are coming from and want to let you know that you are completely entitled to receive acknowledgement and notification on the generous gifts you send. You need to know that your support is getting to the right place. If you are not receiving reply letters or thank you letters every six months, please let us know and we will make sure you do. That said, and I know you don't mean it this way, but I hate to see the children suffer and not receive sponsors as the result of rumors that certain countries don't send letters as often. I never want a child to feel like they are discounted or not good enough and it breaks my heart that many sponsors say such things. It is completely up to you about whether you want to sponsor a third child or not and which child you choose to sponsor. I am just hoping you will give a child a chance regardless of what country they happen to be from.

Hi Susan,

Thank you so much for clearing things up for me! I hope I don't sound like I am sponsoring just for the letters and update.

But now with your words, I can confidently go ahead and discuss with my family about sponsoring the child I found earlier.

I hope the new letter processing system goes well this time, so that sponsors and children both enjoy faster letter exchange! :)

Once again, thank you for your reply. Let me wish you an early Merry Christmas and happy new year!
