I have written to my child using the online letter option several times now. Although i am not anxious or impatient to hear back, i have also been wondering how i will know when they have written me back and also how will i receive this letter? Online like i have been sending, or in the mail? If anyone could let me know i would greatly appreciate it!

My first letters to the kids were done online and I received paper mail in return. As far as I know, there isn't a way to be alerted when I leter is responded to other than when you open your mialbox and find a nice little prize.

Hi Kadence! Right now, the children's letters are only sent in physical form through the mail. Whether you write to your child online or in the mail, you will always receive a physical letter in the mail back.

I have had luck with a system where every time I receive a letter from my kids I write a letter back where I specify my gratitude for "your letter dated XXX XX, XXXX" to let them know which letter I am replying to. My older kids have started mimicking that back to me so I know which letters they have received and are responding too. Typically it's a 2-3 month trip through international mail, translating, and delivery to remote projects then the same route back so usually they are responding on the half year. However I just keep writing and dating the letters so we have a continuous (if interestingly timed) correspondence.
